I bought a set of F150 take offs to put on my 2015 Expedition. I thought everything would fit perfect but the rear axles have a lot of spindel still sticking out so I can't put on the center caps. As soon as I saw it, it hit me that the F150 has a solid rear axle vs. Expedition's independent rear. This must be the difference as you can see the front worked great. Does anyone have any suggestions? My only real solution so far is to shave off almost half the spindel threads that are exposed but I really hate to do that.20160929_191943.jpg 20160929_191949.jpg 20160929_191958.jpg

cut a small part off and test fit.
then clean threads up so the nut will come off if you need axle service

Actually put a nut on it first then cut the access off, then you unwind the nut using whatever force required and the nut itself rethreads the stud.

I'm an iron worker, we do this method all the time and it never has failed

It's not due to IRS vs solid axle...it's the offset

I guess what I mean is that the rear axle on the F150 has a lot more negative offset "built in" because the offset actually looks exactly as it should on the Expedition but with all that extra spindel. The offset on the front was perfect too. Am I wrong in thinking that?

If the wheels fit ok, can't you find a different deeper cap. It may not say Ford, but oh we'll !

That was my first thought but I haven't had much luck. Still looking. Good suggestion though.

We have a place here in San Francisco called rolling stock. You might measure outside dimensions of cap and length you need, theirs someone that makes one. Give them a call. Also check your tire/ wheel shops maybe they or the wheel vendors like American racing, Chip foose or one of them might be able to help. If you've got a friend with a metal lathe you might be able to machine something. Keep us posted.

Just had another thought, though a long shot. How bout going to your local dealer, give him the vin and info from your SUV, see what wheel options were available for yours. Maybe their was a wheel that was available around your year that has a deep cap. It's a longshot, but hopefully you've got a great parts guy that likes a challenge.
