I have a 2000 Expedition with a 5.4 engine. My truck has always ran well and maintained as it should. Last year it wanted to die a couple times when at stop sign. My brother did the Seafoam trick to it with something located next to the brake fluid, it smoked white like crazy for few minutes but ran like a champ after for the next year. A month ago it started to have same symptoms so I did the Seafoam trick again, not as much white smoke and after starting it, it then started to shudder pretty bad in drive. It starts up fine but as soon as it's in drive now it idles high and dies unless you ecsellerate immediately. Reverse and park and neutral have no problems but I can't drive it now with it chugging along like that. Any suggestions would be very appreciated. Thanks

Have you changed your spark plugs? I just did it this weekend and fixed a lot of my problems.

Not yet, someone mentioned it sounded like it could be the torque converter but was told that could be pricey to replace. I can try cleaning the throttle body

Pcv valve and the line that runs to back of throttle body......this can go bad a get air holes causing lose of vacuum which cause rough idle...to check this start if you can then take a can of break cleaner and spray the whole length of the pcv hose...if it revs to normal idle when doing this means you have a leak somewhere

Exact issue with my 04 4.6 a few years ago - vacuum elbo/45 at top rear close to fire wall had a crack - replaced and no issues as described since. Now have a check engine with pcv code showing. Runs great but code will fail emis test. Start with new pcv valve after complete visual check ? Any other suggestions appreciated.

Do yourself a favor. Run the codes, their called dtc codes . You can do it yourself or have one of the shops like Midas or Oreilly do it for you. How do you break a hose on the other side of your truck by pumping through sea foam on drivers side. I've got a 2000 expy, last time I checked my master cylinders on drivers side, and pcv on other. Any check engine light on? really fouled spark plugs can be cleared out by a good romp on freeway. About a steady 75 plus should clear them out. Also get some mass air flow cleaner, spray it out real good, putting that stuff in might have messed with the sensor. Time and time again you guys like putting these cleaners and fix alls in system, and wallah, a new set of problems arise. The only thing to use besides oil changes and regular maintenance is maybe a good safe fuel injector cleaner. I've worked at dealerships and on my own for over 45 years, never used any of these products. You wouldn't put a band aid on a deep cut, you fix it!

yes codes show pcv related emission issue. Did a visual and found a nearly collapsed fitting on the passenger side pcv valve just above the pcv valve at the bend in the fitting. New pcv valve to be installed. Your thoughts Moose?
