I m getting ready to change all the fluids in my "new to me" 2003 XLT FX4 with 93K. It has the 5.4, 4r70w 9.75LS with 3.73's
In looking at the Transmission it calls for Mercon V
Then I go to the transfer case and power steering and they take basic Mercon

Am I reading this correct??

Ford sells and recommends mercon v for 4r70 and 4r100 transmissions. I had mine with 70 k flushed by dealer. I had a case of mercon v ford fluid I had them put in. I've got 85 k on odometer now with no problems. Couldn't comment on the other 2 items. Mine is a 2000 4x4 Eddie Bauer.

Mercon V is semi syn.

The synthetic has a higher flash than Mercon. Meaning less likely to burn off.

Older transmissions might leak with V in it. But the additive package is better than Mercon.

just a simple comparison.

I use XL12 transfer case fluid in my transfer case, if you cant find Mercon. On the Motorcraft Mercon V bottle, it specifically says not to use in transfer cases, so they have the XL12 for that purpose.

My 1999 Expedition is the same. Mercon 5 for transmission and Mercon for transfer case. Your front & rear diffs use different weight fluids too, they don't make anything easy.

They come from factory, mine is 2000, it has a plug. A hell of a lot neater job, than trying to angle a pan, trying to be neat. That never works. Got to get the kitty litter out with other pans.

There is also a plug/port to allow you to drain the torque converter. You have to manually turn the engine to get the plug to align with the hole then you can drain the torque converter which really allows you to drain all the transmission fluid.

See, Ford was finally thinking. Now if they did like Saturn did with a screw in filter, we'd only have to pull pan to clean every 90k or so. Pontiac did something similar on their flathead straight 8. They made an oil pan that trapped debris and sludge. They didn't even use an oil filter. System seemed to work, engines lasted over 100k. That was pretty good for back then.
