i have been doing some research on the site.. i was driving 08 EL and it just sputtered and died on the highway.... about 1/4 tank of fresh gas... i checked the entertia switch and appears to be operable... when you turn on your 3rd gen.. do you hear the fuel pump prime? also... is the Delphi fuel pump any good?

i have searched around... i am trying to figure the best way to diagnose the problem.. was going to replace fuse upfront but it just acts like it needs fuel and isn't getting it.. no codes, no check engine light.. nothing...

thanks guys!

One of the best ways is not to say " appears to be operable"
Start by checking voltage from the fuse to the pump That way your not guessing

Try spraying a little starting fluid in the intake and crank it up. If it wants to start then its a fuel problem. Most likely fuel pump and fuel filter.

I usually disconnect the fuel line at the throttle body area then crank it over. If gas comes rushing out, then it's not a fuel pump. If you get no gas, then it's fuel pump.

my 08 had the fuel pump die at 73k. was parked at idle then the idle got bad and died. tried to restart and nothing, no prime or anything. driver side fuel rail has a valve you could check and see if theres pressure.

so culprit was fuel pump...after dropping tank and pulling pump, you couldn't see the failure in the exposed wiring where it appears a lot do...it had to have been the internal part near the top of the pump. Changed the pump and the fuel filter while under there and BAM... up and running...seems to run a bit better too. Maybe that's just me.

one note though, when you changed the fuel pump..there is a "bag" or filter at the bottom of the pump and mine seemed rather.... clogged.. anyone else find that? Anyhow..up and running and got the big girl back!!!!

thanks for the input all!

That's a filter for the pickup on the pump. The stations you've been buying gas has a lot of crud in their tanks. When you purchase gas, when a tanker truck is filling tanks, your getting the bottom of their fuel supply. Unfortunately sometimes we have no choice on time. We should pull away, but can't. That and time gets all that debris to settle to bottom of your tank. Did you replace or at least clean sock? You may want to replace fuel filters a little more often than the recommended interval, just to play it safe, and I know I'm going to get crap from other members, but keep your tank above 1/4 tank!
