As the title says, starter cranks when the key is turned on (one click) WITHOUT turning key to start engine and won't stop cranking even when it runs...replaced module on firewall...replaced switch box under dash that ignition rod hits....had to disconnect ignition power wire (because its always hot and should only be hot when key is turned to crank starter)to starter relay on firewall and jump relay to start engine.... 2000 expedition....btw this is my old truck I gave to my buddy.....he dropped a lil info on me after he told me all this other stuff you just read...he said "I accidentally hooked up a new battery on the wrong terminals" (wasn't right battery terminals where on different sides)... so I am guessing he shorted something out....any ideas my friends....except for this issue truck works fine. Thanx for any help

Remove fuse #20 in the under dash fuse box Then try starting and see if the starter still stays engaged

Post the results

Incorrect battery polarity connection have caused the problem. Electronic circuitry may have been damaged. An electronic module may need to be replaced. This could be expensive.
