The black relay is obviously your turn signal one. Pull the plug on it, and with the key on, one lead should have 12 volts, the other should light your light when you turn signal right or left. Do that before changing multi switch on column. Also make sure the relay you tried has the same number on it, 87 and so on. And that it's a good one. Probably is if that circuit is working.

Well i pull the multifunction switch out and blew it out with compressed air, worked the signal back an forth, also tap it on a block of wood lightly BUT before i did pulled it out or anything. i just looked at all the wires going to the 2 plugs that plugs in it all were in there places firmly none pulled out :( after seeing that i wiggle all of them while key was on position while i worked the signal in both directions still didn't working and yes i hooked battery back on lol. also pulled both the blue relay out and the black one beside it.i don't have the cash to just go buy new ones plus the parts store is 20 mile away but i did swap the black one with one that was in the fuse box in the engine compartment. i could fell BOTH doing something while turning key on and off i could also heard the blue one clicking while the Hazards lights were blinking i pulled it out while they were blinking and they stopped

idk what else to do beside got get a "know to work" multifunction switch at junkyard or maybe a few :) an new relays when i get cash

When you pulled the switch and had it out did you do the Competent testing with an ohm meter

They use the same filament. Ones for night running lights, the others brake/ turn signal .if your 4 ways work, their ok.

You might want to go with a new one vs used. Their only $30.00 if you don't need a Ford one. You've come this far, why not use your volt/ ohm meter and test your old one. You've got the column apart, the tests only take about 5 minutes, or try one plug and play. Hopefully the wrecking yard one is good. Good luck, Mr Moose!

How do you know that the one you already have is bad unless you test it and then what happens if you get a socalled known good one and it doesn't work Are you then going to get another one

The reason I wasted my time sending you that information was so you would test it

Good luck in fixing the expy

I had a 99 xlt that drove me nuts. There is a ground wire in the plug that hooks into the multifunction switch that comes loose from inside the plug. Green I believe. Do a search for that, it should point in the right direction. My turn signals would work with the steering wheel all of the way up, not in a down position, I had to super glue the wire connector in place

I got the test light out and got the plug down out of there were there are two relays plugged in BLUE one and BLACK one so i can test for power.I pulled the blue relay "TBB89" out sightly just enough to were i could poke the test light in there to see if there was power going to it with my key turned to "on position" and with my signal lever "in position to work the signal" as i poked around in there test light lit up and i heard the thing clicking and seen that my signal light on dash were working. so i did it again and turns out that if i touch #2 and #4 together at same time the signal would flash both left and right signal works that way. i pried the case off the "TBB89" blue relay and i don't see nothing burnt up doesn't smell burnt and for my eyes looked alright but YES i know just because i don't see anything doesn't mean that it's good

So i am goona guess that the relay is bad and my multi function switch is good ?

Black relay IS NOT turn signal one. it has something to do with the heater,The blue one is for the signal/flashers.What are the chances of 5 blue relays being bad ? i don't think i have relay issues i can hear/fell all them clicking while the flashers are on and if i jumped the relay my signals will work "jumped" meaning touching pin #2 and #4 together with a test light while the relay is sightly pulled out
