Hello to all the forum members, i currently drive a 2002 Toyota 4Runner SR5 4WD and i rent and tow a uhaul 6x12 cargo trailer frequently for hauling building supplies to my house and movinv things to and from my storage unit.I am looking into purchasing a brand new haulmark grizzly 8.5 foot wide, 24' 9" long cargo trailer with electric drum brakes and a 10000lb gvwr for my mobile automotive repair and detail business but i can adjust the trailer configuration to suit me based on your recommendations.

I am looking for a used first gen 1997 - 2002 ford expedition eddie baher edition with the 5.4l v8 and the max tow package, my next question is what are the typical and most common factory rear axle ratios for the trucks that have the factory max tow package, also is the 4r100 transmission more heavy duty than the 4r70w or e40d transmission options for towing.

Thank you for all advice given,i like this forum a lot

The max trailer weight on the 97 or 98 expy is 8000 lbs and that is with 2wd 5.4 and 3.73 axel 4X4 models are rated less
The 99 to 2002 is rated a little more and depends on axel ratio

the 2nd gen expys 2003 to 2006 are rated to tow 8600/8900 lbs depending if 2X4 or 4X4

You can check these figures in the owners manuals for each year To download a manual go to

owner.ford.com

there will be those on this forum that will say that you can tow a trailer such as what you mentioned but the 10000 gvwr of that trailer exceeds the weight range of the expy

my opinion would be to look at a F250 properly equipped

Thank you everyone for your replies, i am handicapped and i require a suv, so a truck is not in the cards unfortunatly i happen to take a liking to the 97 - 2002 expedition because of the body styling and nice curves vs the new expedition which has a more boxy front end, i'm considering a 99 - 02 ford expedition 4wd with the 7.3 powerstroke diesel. I will read everything you fine folks have posted and i look forward to being a part of the forum. Does anyone know the cargo capacity of a 2000 ford expedition eddie bauer edition with the adjustable pedals and 3rd row seat removed and a 3.55 axle ratio with the 5.4 v8

look on the sticker by the drivers door for that information

and Ford didn't have the 7.3 powerstroke in the expeditions.

you could consider looking for a Excursion with either the V10 or Diesel
