What a let down! They turned it into a prissy SUV. It looks like a women designed it...for women. The 1st Gen, sold in huge numbers. Ford lowered the body in 2003, for women drivers and sales dropped. now it is a full blown SUV. They changed the one thing people loved about it...it was a truck. Mini vans and crossovers, have this segment covered. The dial shifter, says it all, how un-manly. I expect it in a Subaru, but a Expedition? The front looks the same as the Explorer. The side view reminds me of the Chevy Tahoe. They can keep the wifi and sync, not worth 2-cents, but cost $500-$600. The EcoBoost is fine, but why no diesel or V8? I am hoping for Bronco or Raptor version.
No diesel or V8, likely because Ford doesn't have a decent V8 or diesel to put in it. The 3.5L EcoBoost runs circles around the 5.0L Coyote V8. If Ford had an engine like the 6.2L Vortec maybe, but even then I'd doubt it. If the rumoured 400hp/480ft-lbs in the Platinum Expedition are true, it'll beat the 6.2L Vortec even.

Shifter or not, this is still a truck. Dial shifters are common in RAMs as well. It's still body on frame. It's still tracking most of it's lineage other than perhaps styling to the F-150.

Come on man, the 5.0 coyote is a great motor(400+hp, I own one). I like the ECO B , but I am, uneasy about turbo and long term reliability. A diesel option, should been ready, for the 2018. I drove a Ram with these stupid shifters. It sounds dumb, but you have to look at it, to use it. My truck, I can safely, select a gear by feel. Plus, it is easy to select wrong position, like L2.

I think the Expedition was the best looking SUV out there. I thought the 3rd gens looked great as they were, but I actually like the updated version even better. The '18, however, is a total departure from that. It looks like the bastard child of an Explorer and a Suburban with much of its looks gleaned from the fugly, wagonesque Surburban. Of course what I think is entirely irrelevant since I won't be buying another Ford in this lifetime. :p

i will never buy another either but will be keeping my eye out for the paint popping issue to see if it's been corrected... i know there have been some 16's with the issues.. wonder if any 2017's will and how quickly... I like the front.. the rest is... well.. lacking... I think... wouldn't mind upgrading my headlights to the LED types that are in the new F150's and Expys....

how would the diesel be ready, its just been announced for the f150. on top of that, theres nothing within the full sized suv market to make ford even want to produce a diesel for the expy (again).

GM also limits the 6.2L to the Denali and Escalades.

No they do not. My buddy just bought a 2017 Silverado with the 6.2L in it. Just go to Chevy's website and you'll see the 6.2 is an option on Silverado's

They do, its the 6.2L that was in the Raptor

I like the ECO B , but I am, uneasy about turbo and long term reliability.

A friend of mine made the same comment the other day. Why the concern? Nobody seems to be concerned about the turbo reliability in the diesel engines. The turbos on the gas motor are no different from those on the diesels. Maybe a different part number but a turbo is a turbo

I like it, I can totally see why the try to mirror the explorer, trying to make them similar as to have a signature look for Ford SUVs. I dig the increased space in the 2nd row, currently with a rear facing car seat the front seat position is very limited, having more space in the 2nd row should fix this. Also the increased hp, tq, and addition of the 10 spd is way superior over the current model. I like the wireless charging feature too, that's pimp.

There is only a 300 lb weight savings because the increased the size of the truck over all.

You can get a pistol case for inside the console if you really need lockable storage.
I find the centre console is a good size, just seriously lacking in organization.
I bought a Ford locking safe kit that is supposed to fit 12-17 Expedition, I haven't tried it in mine yet. when I get some warmer weather I'll go out and see if it fits. The center console is way smaller than in my old 05 but it is pretty deep and with the change organizer in there it cuts out access to the back of it so there is hidden space.

The reason for the higher belt line, shorter windows is due to the crash tests. Roof / Pole / Side impact all require more metal, less glass.

Yes your right, they did copy the play book of GM and themselves by making it more explorer / surburban - ish, all with more power and more towing. The explorer and suburban sell the pants off Expy. Ford is here to make a profit, not to make the 300 people who lift or off road with them happy. There sales should increase substantially. I have 4 kids and a travel trailer. I hope to add one of these in the next year or two. I don't plan on getting rid of the 2010.

The platinum line is supposed to get an increase version, 400+ hp. The limited and xlt either the stock F-150 tune, or a specific tune for the weight / towing characteristics they are looking for.

It would be nice if they offered an FX4 package for the XLT line, similar to the Z71 package chevy just recently brought back. IF sales go high enough then there might be some aftermarket companies that will design a mild lift etc. GM has been using the same basic suspension design since 2007. The rear closer to 2002.

I hope they get close to 10K for a 4x4 version towing. But where are the GD towing mirrors?!? Why is this overlooked.

IF you have a pre-3rd gen Expy, there was no way you were actually going to upgrade to this. Just go find yourself a nice used 3rd gen, possibly with an ecoboost, or stick with the 5.4. Still a great motor with lots of life.

Matt.
