I'm sorry for not reading everyone's thread but here's my $.02... Anyone who says this looks exactly like the Explorer is missing something. Look at the Explorer, Expedition and the 2018 F-150 side by side (well, the front). There is more F-150 in there than anything. Now to the rear, I'll concede its hideous and looks like they gave up and just brought over the Explorer tail light design, which doesn't fit. Side profile looks like a woody wagon now, where as before it had a nice square off too it. Liked the new one at first but now giving it a second thought.. I love my 09 very much but need a new one in about 20k miles... Like to get rid of them at the 300k mark lol. Driven a 2016 ecoboost as a loaner- and HATE that I love it. Gas mileage comparatively speaking was drastically better with an ecoboost EL compared to my regular length V8. Being a realtor and firefighter, I tend to drive a lot. At the station all our chiefs vehicles are Tahoe's - my chiefs wont buy SSV Expeditions as we are a GM city and everyone hates Fords here... except me and the surrounding suburbs which only have Ford interceptors (ex's and Taurs). I will seriously miss the shifter as it is basically a hand instead of arm rest- and actually prefer a column shift like GM does. Finally, hope Ford has come up with better protection for the power running boards... ok now im done.

Yes your right, they did copy the play book of GM and themselves by making it more explorer / surburban - ish, all with more power and more towing. The explorer and suburban sell the pants off Expy. Ford is here to make a profit, not to make the 300 people who lift or off road with them happy.

GM doesn't sell more Suburbans/Tahoes than Ford sells Expeditions because of the looks. They sell more Suburbans/Tahoes because they are much easier to handle, have a cushier ride, are a hell of a lot nicer/more comfortable inside and above all, because of model recognition (especially when it comes to EL vs Suburban - most people don't know what an EL is or even that they exist). Good looks were one of few things Ford had to help them hold onto the piece of the market they had left. I predict this new model will result in a reduced market share for this segment unless there are substantial changes elsewhere that bring it in line with Tahoe/Suburban and the appeal it holds for all of those who want a truck, but don't really want a truck. Of course Ford still has to contend with their plummeting reliability ratings and the now legendary peeling paint that still persist through the 2017 models (and will likely plague the 2018s as well).

i do not necessarily agree with that point. too me, most gms sell well mainly for vanity and marketing purposes. if you read consumer reviews and other forums, most people give the nod to ford for driving capability but cant get over the utilitarian interior and sync system. its def more marketed to women (look at most ads and pics for the gm utes, they have more women than men) if ford kept up with the expedition, it probably would have sold more, but after putting so much into 2nd gen and receiving just lukewarm reception at best, i guess they figured who needs one will buy one. i dnt speak for everyone but i never been in a gm that drove better than an expy or navi and ive been in every gen and model from 04+. however the interior of my dads eacalade and how quiet it is makes you forget that it rides worse than any new vehicle should. my wife even noticed this when i took her for a test of a 17 expy (she told me to wait for the 18s). my dad even stated he bought his eacalade for looks alone, he doesnt care that it doeant drive as good as he wants it 2.

Yeah I would say the Tahoe/Suburban are more popular due to name recognition alone. When we bought our 2015 limited we looked at tahoes too and they may have been a little nicer on the inside but not enough so to make us want to spend an extra 5k. Plus the expedition had more power and towing ability and a 3rd row seat that real life adults can use.

shame that the 2nd row room had to suffer, low flat seats with no support and only marginal leg room unless front seats are pushed fwd.

Im 6 ft and have no issues with 2nd row leg room. I do wish there was more space because reverse facing car seats do require the front seats to be fairly far forward
