I was out driving on the highway today and I discovered by accident that the turn signal has what I've always called the lane change feature. push down or up on the stalk and the turn signal will flash 3 times on its own. I had this in my 09 ML350 and I didn't realize Ford had it now. I didn't have it in my 05 Expedition.

I was pushing the stalk down until it locked and then releasing it by pushing back up to cancel it. Now I just have to remember to use it. :D

That feature was with my 2012 FX4 F-150 and I really liked it. I was happy it is retained in the Expy. Just another feature that "makes sense" in the new Fords that is being continued in the succeeding model years. Yeay!!

I like it. My wife's 03 E320 has it and it is a nice convenience feature.

Nerd time: The guy who invented/ patented this feature is Richard Ponziani, owner of http://www.rlpengineering.com/index.htm
Everything you ever or never wanted to know about turn signal technology is there.

His other patented turn signal invention uses some of the lane departure data sources to determine that a vehicle is turning and/or changing lanes without using its signal. To encourage the driver to obey the law and not be such a douche, a warning/chime annoys them into submission. Will we ever see this go into production?

By the way, Ponziani sued/is suing Ford for the tap stalk 3 blink gizmo.

Sounds silly to sue Ford over this. It is such a simple convenience seems like a natural to put in a vehicle. But if he had a patent on it seems legit.

let me add
the vehicles of today have computers and code running and talking to everything.
so why dont the code writers put things in that make for more user select options

my 2008 freightliner rv chassis has more user defined and selectable items that monitor, alert and let you make decisions on how automatic things can happen or if you have to physically toggle an input. i mean so much, it will boggle the mind.

code writers...expy.get on board.
reverse selected, mirrors tilt down 15 degrees, we already get a signal to turn on camera??
turn signal tapped ...signals actuate 3 times
i have more but one handed typing is to slow

You ca do the tilt feature via Forscan in theory. It is available via programming on the 150's, and most things transfer to the Expy. Haven't tried it yet. Waiting for the first service, before I go nuts in Forscan on the wife's ride. On my Edge, MANY things have been changed.

Loki,

It sounds like the "tilt-mirror-in-reverse" feature would be in demand if you figure it out! I doubt many here would doubt what you say once you've had a chance to pry to code apart!
