Ok so great news guys. I just had my Expedition serviced and got on this topic with the Ford tech. He told me several things they were already "informed on the inside".

1. The 2018 Platinum will have 450 hp.

2. The 2019 Expeditions are going to offer 4 motor options. 3.5 ecoboost, 5.0 ecoboost, 6.2 Ltr na, and a diesel.

3. 2020 will bring back the Excursion on a 1 ton frame.

Take it as you will this is what he said with all sincerity.
Number 1 I believe.
Number 2 no way. They're making 650hp from the 3.5. Doesn't make sense to offer up 4 motor configurations when the 3.5 can be messaged to do whatever they need it to do.
Number 3 I don't believe either. For a whole host of reasons. To many to list here

But then again it's all speculation so who knows

When you think about it, the EL version really is the size of the Excursion, except for lift. If they offer the diesel engine in the EL that will be very similar to the Excursion.

That's the reason they built the EL was to replace the Excursion.

if ford replaces the the irs with the heavy duty leaf spring setup in yhe f150, you would technically have an excursion. the new f150 setup is probably as strong if noy stronger than the super duty setup from a decade ago. the expy already tows about 95% of what the old excursuon could tow.

I somewhat believe Excursion, here is why.

Ford announced earlier this year 4 new SUVs nameplates in market segments where they don't currently compete in. Since then we've seen the Ecosport and Bronco. Maybe the Excursion will be a stretched version of the Bronco, like the Bronco Magnum of the 80s/90s. Bronco XL or something.

The F150 offers 3.3L, 2.7L EB, 5.0L, and a 3.0L Power Stroke, so I am not at all surprised to hear the Expedition might be available in more than just one power plant. But keep in mind the 3.3L replaced the 3.5L in the F150.

Issue I have with the Expedition is its 1/2 ton suspension and brake setup.

I've owned 2 E-350's w/ v-10's and the new T-350 ecoboost and these issues we're nonexistent. I wanted a 4x4 SUV to travel with because I have 2 children as well.

The power is plenty for the towing but under engineered in braking power and suspension sags when loaded down. Sure they have the auto leveling setup to counter this but is really a bandaid to compensate the under engineered setup and must be driven with load for a short distance to activate it. At 21,000 miles my front rotors are already warped. Ford has me upgrading to:
Stoptech Cryostop Hi-Carbon Drilled & Slotted 127 Rotor - (STT-127.65119CR).

I'm putting the Hawk LTS pads on instead of the HD ones because they squeak at low speed and produce a high amount of dust.

This is a 1500$ per axle (parts only) upgrade through Ford. I ordered parts myself self and will do it for free costing me under 400$ for front.

So I will be ecstatic if they bring the Excursion back on a 1 ton setup.

I guess I'm having trouble figuring out what other manufacturers have that would be in competition with a Bronco and Excursion? There is no segment for either of those types of vehicles. No other manufacturer builds a dedicated off-road SUV and the Suburban is the biggest SUV on the road at 135" wheel base with the EL right behind it. I get the bronco. They've made so much money off the Raptor it makes sense to build a badass SUV. Bringing back the Excursion doesn't make sense. What class would it "compete" in? There wasn't a market for them back then I don't see the market for them in a few years.

As far as the multiple engine options in the F150 goes. You're talking about a completely different class of automobile. There are multiple reasons for different engine options. One major one I can think of is the F150 is a fleet vehicle. A business that buys multiple trucks for whatever reason may not need a 5l V8 in the 5, 10, 20 trucks they buy so a 2.7 Ecoboost makes more sense for numerous reasons. That's just one example. The Expedition has one major use and that's being a comfortable family hauler that can tow if needed and can accomplish some light off-road duty. Its a luxury SUV. Even the XLT comes pretty loaded. It's not a fleet vehicle, or a work vehicle, it's certainly not a truck. Does the multiple engine options make the F150 a better seller in the truck market sure. Would those same options make the Expedition a better seller maybe but I don't think so. The single motor scenario has worked for multiple manufacturers why try to fix something that is t broke. They're finally jumping on the Denali Escalade wagon by offering more power in the Platinum.

Plus if they put a diesel in one that's even more reason not to build an Excursion.

excursions was like big suv ****. that thing was awesome with the diesel option. folks easily pulled 20 plus mpg in a 7k lb truck
i doubt expys will more than one engine option.
eco boost series sales like hotcakes
a diesel optioned F150 maybe, the inline 5 going in transit vans is a strong entry
rv world is snatching up both variants with gas or diesel to up fit to class b rvs.

the hybrid version may still me in the works, if they can give it the ability get 30mpg highway but still to tow about 7 - 8k lbs without a hige markup, i think it would be successful
