I looked at this site: http://www.carcomplaints.com/

and of course they list every car made so I right-clicked on "Ford" on the right hand side where it says "GET TO MAKE-SPECIFIC COMPLAINTS FASTER:" and opened it in a new tab. There they listed several of the ford models.....along with numerically, the quantity of complaints.

Basically, for the 20 years the Expedition has been made, it sits just BELOW the number of complaints for the newer model such as the Fusion, or just over the number of complaints for the Edge, both which have been made half as long!

Kind of surprising. I'm not taking too much to the bank with this info but it does provide some interesting reading. For example, comparatively, the Expy has nearly 50% more complaints than the Tahoe /Suburbans.....but you can go and explore yourselves....

I'd say the website may not be very reliable because a lot of people who have issues don't go posting them online. My aunts last to GM's have had major issues (12' Tahoe LTz and now 15' Yukon Denali), both of her GM's have had transmission issues well within warranty time and all the Bells and whistles break like the running boards constantly. It's like the trucks live at the dealer. If you go to the Tahoe forum there are a lot of owners of new GM's where GM had to buy them back because of major defects. I haven't seen that here but I could be wrong I'm just guessing. My point is a lot of people don't post their issues so it's probably not a reliable segment of population reporting.

There's not much but a handful of "true" full sized suv's out there to compare it to (as in body on frame), are the armada or sequoia still body on frame??

As someone who is researching a new SUV i started out looking at the Tahoe/Yukon. That quickly ended after research. Major, major issues with no fix in sight. i find it really hard to believe ford would be ahead in the complaints over GM.

the complaints also include the electronic interface, which unfortunately includes the infotainment complaints. sync 2 which luckily the expy only had for one yr rele tarnished fords reliability. also, because ford sells so little expys then tahoes, 1 of 4 expy returns for a frozen touchscreen makes it look less reliable than 2 of 10 tahoes comin in for droning rear end.

Before I bought my '17 Expy, I drove every other full sized SUV including the Armada. By the time I had driven it off the dealers lot, I was looking for a place to turn around to take it back....It's a nice truck for someone who might be 5'-5" but at 6 feet tall, which really isn't very tall, and being used to the space around me in my '03 EB Expy, I felt very, very cramped. Just my take on it.

Tahoe/Suburban have far more sales #s, too

Then again, with the latest gen, I've heard of livery companies dumping Suburban & Yukon XL in favor of Expedition EL due to massive reliability issues with late model GM trucks.... very weak trannies, or so I hear

Of course, if there are more examples of a model on the road, the proportion of complaints might also be proportionally higher. Overall, I've got over 300,000 miles on two expys without a significant problem due to design or manufacture. All my problems have been human caused.

I love my Expy...... I loved both of them actually.........until the 2016 had so many electronic & electrical problems that it spent 65 days at the Ford dealer within a period of 3 months. CAN YOU SAY LEMON? I swear to god I lost 2 years off my life because of FORD CORPORATE & all their lies and BS.

THE DEALER ended up buying it back because Ford themselves welched out on their warranty and actually refused to buy it back. Good thing there are lawyers out there who specialize in this exact sort of fraud, so I sued Ford for breach of warranty and won that too. After an entire lifetime of swearing by Ford and driving nothing but Ford, something like that totally F's up your preference and what you actually feel is a 'relationship' between you and Ford vehicles.

ADDITIONALLY: All newer Ford Exy's are total SH*T for fit and finish on the interior... The seams inside on interior parts look like a lego building, built by a 2 year old. For 50K it's ridiculous how crappy it is and it's not one or two I speak about....It is nearly everyone I have seen and drove.

Like I said- Love my NEW 17 expy, but there is also the factor of pretty much hating all the other SUV's. Let's face it guys.........these Expy's are just a fairly poor imitation of the Excursion.
