I dont know what this plug is on my 2001 Expedition 4x4 5.4 L. Its near the oil filter. There is another plug attached to it that is plugged in above the oil filter but i don't see any other outlet for this one. 089a6fca4c50fb510e35a8780ea935df.jpgc2b5f7f43e05417b93cfcb14a1323ab0.jpg

Hey thanks for the reply, I am still on the hunt.

Right before this plug the cable splits and there was another plug that does get plugged in behind the oil filter, but I don't see any area or location where I can plug this second one in anywhere near the oil filter.

Do you k ow what the one you're referring to does?

You dont happen to have a pic of your setup do you?

I'll take a picture once I get the chance and post it.

The way it's set up on mine is that I have the cable that splits like you do with one end connecting to the power steering pressure sensor on the power steering pump and the other end going to an oil pressure sensor on the backside of the oil filter.

Judging from your pictures, it looks like your power steering pump is missing the pressure sensor. I can't tell for sure though.

The connector you have there looks like it would fit that sensor exactly.

There is a chance someone didn't know your truck had the electric steering assist and bought a normal power steering pump which would leave you without a female connector

Wow. 1st thanks for going out of your way for the annotated pic. What is that part called? I have been cleaning the underbelly of the beast for 2 weeks and I can finally start to make individual Parts out without all of the grime and dirt.

I am going to go look at or for the power steering pump today and see if I see an outlet or not.

The truck came from Alaska so there are a few unique modifications to it that I have never seen before period for example there is a heater for the oil, and I live in Florida so obviously I will never be using that :)

Would there be a risk of a short circuit with that plug open like that and should I cap it in some way?

It's a power steering pressure sensor.

Here is the link to one on rock auto if you want to check it out: http://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...,steering,power+steering+pressure+sensor,7408.

Like SnuffThePunkz mentioned, you may have a pump with no outlet for it. It seems likely, especially if someone was in there tinkering around before. I feel like if you were missing it and there was an outlet, all your power steering fluid would have shot out. Not sure though.

I doubt you would need to worry about it short circuiting unless the connector begins to crack and break apart, allowing the terminals to come into contact with each other. Personally, I would cap it off to be safe and if you plan on using it at some point, I would clean it out and wrap it up so no more dirt gets in the terminals. Either way, I would at least secure it with a zip tie to eliminate any chance of it flying into a moving part.
