Hey all, I've had an '06 EB since it was brand new and finally decided it was time to upgrade the radio after being spoiled with a work vehicle that had bluetooth and a USB port. I replaced the 6 disc changer radio with an Alpine INE-W960 using a Crux SWRFD-60L wiring harness. Other than not installing the brake bypass wire (bypass module arrives tomorrow), I'm having one issue with the sub pop and a few other questions.

My issue
1. I figured the Cruz adapter would have the 12v to 5v converter, but apparently it doesn't, because the sub would pop. I purchased an Axxess Interface AFDI-5V Ford 12V to 5V Step Down, installed that and still the sub pops. I'm splicing into the blue/white wire on both harnesses. The Alpine does have a brown "Remote Out" on the same modular harness as the RCA cables.

My Questions:
1. Illumination wire on Crux harness but none one Alpine harness. I guess no dimming for me?
2. Grounding: Better to ground the radio straight to a bare metal piece or splice into the available wire on the Crux harness?
3. The RCA for the sub has one black plug on the Crux harness, I have it plugged into one of the REAR RCA's from the radio as that was the only plug that would give sound through the sub. I found a two RCA to single RCA converter I had in a box of parts. I'm not sure if it's doing anything. Shouldn't I have the black Crux RCA plugged into the radio's Sub RCA's?
4. It would be nice to retain the sound muting when reversing, but I think it's not possible?

On a positive note, to get the steering wheel controls to function properly the recommended DIP switch settings didn't function correctly and my first guess solved the problem (sort of).

No backup camera installed yet, still looking for an available model that fits in the license plate light location.

For reference:
Alpine Manual
Crux manual

Any help is appreciated.

double check the harness...has to be one

ground to metal sleeve or to the unit itself

try to back of unit...if it works youre good...if it doesn't put into harness

4. It would be nice to retain the sound muting when reversing, but I think it's not possible?

nope...u will have to use the att button on remote if u have one or turn down volume

Figured out some of my questions after I got the parking brake wire bypassed.

Only item left is the pop from the factory amp. Would it be a coincidence that the converter on the Crux adapter and the AFDI-5V converter both are dead?

used a multimeter and tested the AFDI-5V converter, it's coming out at 5v (5.34). What color is the wire at the factory harness? Pin #4 on the harness?2011-06-19_021702_2.png

If you are having the popping issue, I had the same problem with their crappy converter. Ended up bypassing part of their module and it fixed my problem. If you need help let me know and I'll see if I can remember how I did it.

Any help is appreciated! I bought some 1.5k ohm resistors, I was planning on wiring one in before the 12v to 5v converter because why not?
