So I'm in the process of putting a v10 in my 97. I know to go with a pre 04 v10, but will it be a pain to go with a newer 4r100? It and the transfercase are out of an 06 250. Will the ecm from an earlier 6.8 talk to it without trouble, or will flashing it fix any hiccups? What about the wiring harness?

To me it is easier to transplant a complete working system into a different and older system. If a donor vehicle is available then swap the engine harness, pcm, instrument cluster, trans harness into the 97. Heck I would check to see if the entire dash would fit. Will you have to adjust some of the wiring? Probably, but it is easier to lengthen wires than make a Johnny Cash contraption work.

I don't mind making custom parts but if I can source an oem part I will always go that route first. The more you can keep it oem the less fabrication you will have to do.

Yeah that was the plan but best laid plans and whatnot... I'm aware of the pinout changes and lengthening wires, just not sure about the flashing process, and I'm pretty sure an excursion dash will not fit in my ********* Expo. Also, so far my measurements tell me simply releaving the top of the idler mount and steering box, along with electric fans should be all the added clearance needed. Thoughts?

There is a thread on the forum dealing with the swap. From what I remember motor mounts were flopped, trans mount needed some mods plus the wiring. I think his was 2wd si you're blazing new trails on this one.

Im back with a vengeance. I lost access to my old email so had to start a new profile. The ********* expo project lives! I have purchased a 1997 e350 that only has 108000 on the v10. Ive got it out and tore down. The tranny is a 2wd so i have to change the output shaft and tailpiece. Anyone with these parts laying about would be my new best friend. Will have pictures soon. Also anyone with good wiring schematics would be in my xicle of best friends.

Well project 6.8 Expo is coming along nicely. Motor is tore down and have begun port matching the heads and cleaning up and smoothing the horrible casting job ford did inside and out of the intake. Also replacing waterpump and timing belt while it's out and on the stand.
As for the body itself the five k+ stereo wreaked havoc on the roof. All supports had been shook loose, so I cut inserts out of 3/4 inch plywood and with alot of liquid nails frp flooring adhesive, scissor jacks, bottle jacks, and patience,(each panel took two days to fully dry) the roof as as solid as can be. Estimated power levels after build should be around 12-15k via a custom dual altenator setup. Will have pics soon

Motor is complete, custom dual alternator bracket should be done today. Abs controller swapped over along with ecm, and cruise control. Dual fan setup in, and body work is wrapping up. Still need to add aux power steering and tranny coolers. (I'm leaving the expos originals on and piggybacking the ones from the van and the 4r100, figure it can't hurt.) got my two 1/0 gauge leads for my amp rack ran to the back and the box is sitting in the house patiently awaiting power. Will be setting motor this week. Anybody know the trick to the motor mounts? I would rather not have to pull this 10 back out.
