This is the second time this has happened, all on warm (90+F) days after the vehicle has been parked in the sun. Both times my iPhone was plugged in for charging. The Sync 3 does not go to navigation, cannot play music from my USB drive, and the phone does not operate via voice command. The first time fixed itself after driving many miles with the AC on after turning ignition off for a fueling stop (cold boot...), but today, noting worked. I will be inquiring about this to the dealership service (have to bring the truck in for the FIFTH time for ambient lightening...).

Has anybody else experienced this and is there a simple fix? Thanks for comments. This just isn't right.

If your iPhone was in the truck and got hot it will stop working until it cools off. If the processor gets too hot it shuts down. Are you back home now?

Yea that sounds more like a phone thing, my iPhone hates getting hot and sometimes doesn't work at all if I leave in the sun on accident.

I will try it again today. The phone was in my pocket then plugged it in on my drive home, so the phone was not hot. I guess this is not a common problem with Sync 3 so it is most related to the phone being plugged into the USB when it is hot. Will continue to experiment... Thanks for the replies.

I noticed that my phone goes right to Apple Car Play apps when I first connect, and it took a little bit of playing around with it to figure out how to get back to Sync.

Was your phone connected by the USB connector or the round charging jack?

When you were charging your phone, did you leave it in your truck or did you have it with you. Body heat shouldn't be enough to shutdown your iPhone but a hot vehicle will.

What happens if you unplug your phone does that reset everything or do you have to wait until the phone cools off?

Are those two occurrences the only time you've had the issue? When I turn off the vehicle but leave the phone connected via USB to my Sync 3 system, after I return and start the truck I have to unplug the cable from the phone and plug it back in to get the system to recognize that the phone is connected (reboots Carplay). This happens on every occurrence, regardless of temp.

The iPhone is connected to the USB dock in the console. Probably the root of the problem when the system is hot. I drove out to may project area in the mountains this morning (nice and cool) and everything worked fine. So probably best to charge the phone in another source and not use the USB. I do not use the phone for anything but Bluetooth.

Thanks for the suggestions Andy.

Seems to want to connect the phone via USB cable and not Bluetooth. I do not use Carplay. My solution is to use the cigarette lighter socket with a USB adapter. Or move to Alaska!!

It's probably caused by the iPhone being hot. You can go into the CarPlay app and turn of the automatic connection that way the phone will not connect unless you want it to connect.
