Absolutely sure about not being air ride suspension. Cycling through the system menu on the dash never brings up air suspension. The owners manual is very clear that this would be indicated if equipped, because the system would need to be disabled before changing a flat tire

Probably a bad coil spring/strut assembly. When I bought my last explorer i noticed it was sagging slightly and they had to replace both sides to bring the front end up to normal again.
