For those with the weird "add-on" to their factory airbox like my 04, this mod is even easier. Remove the extra leg (it unclips), get a short piece of black ABS, a 3" coupler from home depot.. No cutting of the factory parts, no gluing, just a bit of grinding to the abs to get it started in the hole.. Then a hammer and 2x4 are your friend.

Took about 25 mins total, most of which "convincing" the ABS pipe to fit into the factory opening.
I am wanting to do this I have an 04 as well. I work at a plumbing supply store and can get the parts cheap. Is it just a 3in inside diameter rubber coupling and 3in inside diameter pvc . or is this all outside diameter.

I got no difference in mileage (as I expected) after the mod. I did get a little better response when putting my foot down though. As this mod allows more air, the engine will not actually use any more air when just cruising than it did before, but will use more air when in higher RPMs as there is more available.

36855.jpeg Saw this but it doesnt really correct the whole problem.
So..... I removed it all together and ran Four inches to the quarter panel and enlarged the opening to four inches. Dropped in an AEM High Flow Dry Filter. Get avg 70 to 75 degree air temp at MAF sensor

still no real answer. What good is a mod if you only THINK it does something? Need some numbers...

Alansd, I have asked that question in many ford forums over the years, not only of the Gotts mod, but of any CAI. I did try this mod myself on my F150. I couldn't tell a difference. No one has ever replied with anything beyond anecdotal evidence. I have never seen or heard of any dyno test showing a gain of power, torque, or mpg of either one. You would think the CAI manufacturers would do it and produce the charts as a part of their marketing.
I specifically asked how much a CAI lowers intake air temp; again, no answer.

I did swap the stock air filter on my expy for a K&N filter.
