Hello all.... On my new-to-me 2002, the gas tank straps have some issues. One is nearly rusted through, and the other has been "bumped" to the edge of the tank. (Looks like it was scraped on something.) The part is cheap, and it looks like it's a straightforward operation to replace them. QUESTION: Are these the ONLY thing keeping the tank from dropping to the pavement? Do I need to otherwise support the tank when I take them off? Or are they more of an "insurance policy" against the tank coming loose? Thanks in advance.

yep other than the fuel and vent lines a filler neck tube and wiring

and yes you absolutely want to support it with a floor jack or something similar

Dont expect the bolts to come out easy. A lot of times they are rusted to the j nut holding them to the frame and when you try to remove them all they do is spin
