I also got to drive a Platinum today, and I can echo everything dlcorbett says...fantastic automobile.

It seems to ride a lot higher than my 2012 F150 XLT 4x4, although I guess it shouldn't. I have never driven an outgoing Expi, so I have no way to compare it to the older model.

Even though it had the 22" wheels, the ride is incredibly smooth, it was noticeably better than my truck and it's 18" wheels.

I cannot say enough about the power. I was a little disappointed when I floored it on the freeway as the tranny took a couple seconds to decide on a gear, but once it did there was plenty of power. But then I switched it into Sport mode and all that changed...it is downright fast and the transmission was extremely responsive. It also held its gears for a loooong time in Sport mode after I took my foot off the gas to get ready for the next punch. From a stop, I ran out of space before it got done powering through gears and it showed no signs of slowing down. And the engine has a nice sound to it as well. I am normally not a fan of the AutoStop, but it really wasn't that noticeable. Also, I was worried all the shifting would drive me nuts what with 10 forward gears, but I saw that I was in 10th before I really even felt 3 shifts...so it shifts very smoothly.

Visibility is good and I didn't feel like I was driving a bunker. The steering wheel is thick and feels great, and the massaging seats do, in fact, massage.

Other than the slight hesitation from the transmission when I floored it in Normal driving mode, I had absolutely nothing to complain about. It is all around fantastic and I will be placing my order for a Max Platinum 4x4 this afternoon.

Wow, congrats!

we all pause if the throttle is dumped, the ecm has to decide... but if you roll into wot by smoothly dropping the hammer a tad slower, it will go. at least the current ones.

i have read the 10sp does not go through all ten gears. in fact you may only see 4 in normal driving. the ratios are close and the ecm decides based on load, throttle, and a host of other parameters.
i am anxiously waitng for one to show up here to go take a look. if a 2019 is a KING ranch, it could entice me.

Just registered on this site to share my thoughts, as I too was able to test drive a Platinum Max yesterday. Coming from a 2010 Tahoe, I've had my eye on this ride (the non Max) for over a year, as well as the Gator.

I really enjoyed the test drive. Tons of power, great technology and fantastic responsiveness. I was really worried about the shifting w/ a 10 speed - my wife has a 8 speed Grand Cherokee and I hate driving it because it always shifts - but this thing was buttery smooth.

My only real complaints are no HUD for the driver, which seems to be standard for rides in this price range, as well as limited color options. I LOVE the Dark Blue F-150, but the Expy seems to me much more limited in options. Also, this is likely just due to me coming from a Hoe, but I felt like the front end of the Expy was a mile in front of me, kind of like the Explorer. The dash seems to go on forever...I think this is something I'd get used to after a couple days driving it.

My father rode with me and didn't want to leave the front seat due to the massaging functionality - ha!

FWIW it was a white Platinum Max fully loaded. Sale Price? 77K!!!!

Garrett, welcome to the forum. You are a lucky man to have the opportunity to drive one. I'm still waiting to see one here in Fort Wayne, IN.

Over the thanksgiving weekend, I went to the MotorTrend autoshow and was able to test drive the Platinum Expedition 4x4. This was technically my first time driving the Expedition where I normally drive my father's F150 from time to time. The power in the Platinum is addicting and while there was a Mustang GT people were test driving, I felt the big Expedition would give it a run for its money. It felt very powerful and smooth. The power delivery was awesome. The tech in this thing also was amazing. I put my iPhone X in the wireless charging spot and it works flawlessly. The massaging chairs felt great and the 10 speed was smooth. I can definitely see myself with one of these. The price is a bit much but you get a lot for your money here.
Lastly, the start stop technology was actually kind of cool. I didn't really notice it too much but I when I paid extra attention I could tell the engine shut off.

My dealer placed my order today...does anyone who has ordered have any insight on how long it might take? I’m getting the standard “60-90 days” response from the dealer.

It’s not really a typical order as I didn’t put down a deposit or sign anything, I simply sent him my build and he ordered it as a dealer order.

I hope there’s not as I ordered a Max after only test driving a short WB.

I have the 17 Limited EL and the difference in the way it drives over the standard wheelbase is it's smoother and doesn't porpoise when driving over bumps, because the wheelbase is longer there is more time for the front wheels to land before the back wheels hit the bump and come up. With the short wheelbase you hit the bump with the front wheels the front end pitches up and then the back wheels hit the bump and the back pitches up as the front is coming down so that has the effect of going over little jumps. With the long wheelbase, the front has solidly landed before the back wheels hit the bump and come up.

I'm not sure if I'm describing that correctly but my impression is the truck rides smoother.
