Hi all, I just picked up a used one owner 2016 Expedition last week after a VERY negative experience with a Ram 1500 and FCA warranty service. I've had quite a few Fords over the years, a 1995 Mustang GT (bought used), a 1997 F150 (bought new), a 2012 Mustang GT (bought new), and my wife currently has a 2011 Edge (bought used). I've always had good luck with Fords, including warranty service, reliability, and even issues outside of warranty where Ford had a TSB out for total replacement of a part due to a design flaw (2011 Edge brake booster at 80,000 miles).

The Expedition will be taking over tow vehicle duty from the 2014 Ram 1500 hemi/8spd, during the warmer months we pull our 21' Tritoon all over the missouri/illinois/arkansas landscape to a half dozen different lakes.

I'll be seeing you all around the forums.

Welcome to the forum. I know many people who have said the same things about Dodge that you mentioned. I can’t comment as I’ve never owned one.

Dodge is Dodgy.

I once needed a tow truck (due to my own clumsy diy errors), a newish Dodge showed up....that thing was SOOO rickety I was tempted to ask the guy if we might have better results if I pulled him instead

Honestly, I loved the truck at first.. with the hemi, 8spd, and 3.92 posi it was pretty darn fun to drive, and towed quite well. The issues I had were a drivetrain vibration on the highway (so bad that it'd make a mess out of a drink without a lid) that they blamed on my tires (even though it still occurred after replacing the tires), the transmission failed at 52k miles while towing our boat on vacation (locked into 6th gear and hit 280* before I got it off the highway), they never did completely fix that, it still ran hot (220-230* when not even towing), and the final straw was the rear differential whine that began around 54k miles, they replaced the pinion bearings which made no difference and then said "it's normal" and wouldn't do anything further.

On the transmission issue I opened a "Ram Cares" case because we were out of town with a boat and no tow vehicle because the warranty wouldn't cover a vehicle I could tow with.. they did nothing for us.. Then when we got home after vacation with the half ass fixed transmission I opened another "Ram Cares" case to get the remaining transmission issue (running hot) resolved, the local dealer service manager actually told me that Ram would only pay him to replace the valve body (which had been done when it failed) or replace the entire transmission, but to replace the entire transmission it had to fail again AND have burnt fluid.. so basically I was on my own awaiting another failure.. The "Ram Cares" rep then told me he was closing the case and implied that the boat I was towing was too heavy (it's a 3,500lb pontoon boat). I told the rep that if Ram stood behind the transmission they should extend the warranty on it, which would only cost them if it fails again, my suggestion was declined.
