Mileage?
any other recent maintenance items?
from your original post, I would suspect Idle Air Controller, fuel filter, air filter, MAF, &/or Throttle Position Sensor.

Seems you have a few others as well based on your just now post.

Let us know when she's purring again.

It has 105k miles on it and has an aftermarket air intake/exhaust system (I'm not sure the right terminology...I'll have to get a pic of the engine). Fuses are on my list of things to check, I just haven't had the opportunity to check them yet. I'll probably add that to the list for the mechanic.

I would learn to do and check some of this stuff yourself especially if it's a burden to your wallet. This is not the truck to have if your low on funds or not mechanically inclined, lol. They are great trucks but when age catches up they do have issues to address and can be quite quirky sometimes. I have some intermittent squeal coming from somewhere when my truck is cold, it's a high pitched squeal. Could be a bearing of some kind, not the belt and not a wheel bearing so maybe one of my pulley bearings or the alternator. Always fixing or figuring out something. I just did the oil filter housing gasket and new fan belt. My squeal noise was there before and after so don't know yet.

Hi, y'all.

So I've got a few issues with my Expedition but the most concerning right now is that just after I installed a new battery, I started experiencing a shudder, mainly when I'm idling or accelerating. I had the starter, battery, and alternator checked and they are fine.

When idling, it sometimes shudders so bad it feels like the truck's going to quit completely. There's no check engine light coming on. I am going to be calling a mechanic today (I've had to find a new one after 4 different local mechanics screwed up figuring out what was wrong with my '86 F-250) and hoping to get it taken in today or tomorrow.

Any idea what is causing this and why it started up after I got a new battery installed? And any general idea how much it will cost to fix it?

Any and all advice/opinions are welcome.

Misfire.

Plug, coil, and/or injector on one of your cylinders.

Do you have a check engine light? A $12 elm327 bluetooth code reader can tell you which cylinder misfiring and throwing codes, typically it'll be p020# and/or p030# (where # is the number of the cylinder giving you trouble)... Panlong is a reliable brand mine has been good to me for a couple years now, it is $12 on amazon.

Plugs are 7-10 bucks a piece for originals, coils are like 30-50 bucks a piece original or 30-60 bucks for all 8 generic. Injectors are $30-40 / ea, they're a more complex part so don't get a no-name brand

Each of the above can be swapped out in your driveway in 5 to 15 minutes. Just figure out which cylinder unless you think it's about time to change them all (though knowing which one was the issue would be nice anyway, in case it persists).

Start with coil pack, its literally held in with one bolt only. Then plug probably.

If that didnt help do the injector.

PS you didnt wash the engine bay with water, perhaps a garden hose, or get rain in there when swapping the battery? Lots of people get the "yeesh thats dirty lets clean that up" reflex

....Cuz thats a no-no

If you did thats almost certainly one of your coils or an injector. The stuff at the top of the engine really isnt very well protected and tends to get jacked up if water gets in there.

Stop scaring the guy.

At least mention half of these items cost less than beer.

Gal, actually, LOL.

And no, we didn't do any engine cleaning when we changed the battery. Only cleaning it's had was on the exterior back in August by my husband.

The squeal actually would start up after the engine had warmed up and worsened when the alternator started dying.

The Dutchman is currently at the mechanic and has been since Tuesday last week. Tom (mechanic) said he'd start it on Friday so today I am going to call to get an update. Think all I want for Xmas is this thing fixed. I gave him a list of the major things that need checked so hopefully we'll have most the issues resolved...we'll see. I'll post an update with what I find out.

Never got a check engine light until the alternator stopped keeping the battery charged. And I will look for that code reader on Amazon...got love Amazon Prime.
