I like how there are so many differing views about these vehicles, it makes for interesting reading. I wish i had mine so i could give a more accurate review of the vehicle. I may have to test all the suvs and oncce i get mine do a fair comparison. I have driven the armada, escaade though not in the same class, and test driven both old and new expys. The only one i have not driven is the sequoia, but i those are just not attractive at all.

I have the dual headrest dvd system in my EL and love it. I to have 3 kids 2 boys 7 & 5 and a little girl 10 months. The boys sit in the 2nd row and the girl in the 3rd. My kids are the opposite. If they had only one movie to watch they’d fight. I can put 2 different movies in and they watch their own flick. If they decide to say screw it and want to watch what the other one is watching they can push the source button and watch each other’s feed. A can watch B and B can watch A. The little girl doesn’t watch tv yet as she is rear facing but when she’s old enough and we’re able to turn her around I plan to add a drop down screen for her that can play her own movie or feed off either of the boys screens. My only issue is I can’t control any of the screens from my seat upfront. We have to get movies started before we hit the road.

My brother has a 12 Denali with the 2nd and 3rd row drop downs. He only has two kids so the 3rd row screen is useless but he said his kids are constantly fighting because they don’t want to watch the same thing. He has a boy and a girl so I’m sure you can imagine lol.

I agree with two screens in two different headrests (as in the Expy) with independent inputs is the way to go with TWO kids. But once you have THREE kids or more, watching the tvs, that's when the issues start. One of those kids will think he/she doesn't have their own screen like the other two kids. At that point the easier approach is the "team work" or "sharing" or "we take turns" approach with selecting desired movies/shows and just have the same thing playing on all screens.

And god forbid if you get captains seats in the second row, which with 3+ kids is the way to go for most families, then the third row seaters are even further removed from the Expy's two head rest screens. I get it, in return with the Expy you can have a panoramic sunroof which is why you can't have those airplane style drop down screens, but with 3+ young kids it becomes tough in the Expy.

Yeah, with four kids, I haven't figured out how any sort of built in system is an improvement over a pile of ipads. I mean it's not like you can take the built in system on an airplane or into a rental car. And given the price of an ipad mini, it's not like there's a cost savings. What am I missing?

Did you read my post before quoting it??? I have THREE kids and I have 2nd row captains seats. When my 3rd child is old enough I can add a drop down screen for the 3rd row where that child can watch whatever they want. That can also be done in the 18 even if you get the pano roof. The pano roof is only above the 1st and 2nd rows.

Maybe we see it different but IMO 3 kids all having to watch the same thing I think would be more of an issue than each kid being able to watch whatever they wanted.

I did not mean to upset you, if I did. Of course I read your post, maybe you didn't read mine carefully enough, I said, "But once you have THREE kids or more, watching the tvs..." You do not have three kids watching tvs. At this point in time you have two who are watching, and one who is only 10 months old, and who is rear facing, etc. I think in about 4 years you'll be able to have an informed opinion on this, once your little one is older. At this point its just a guess as to what she'll prefer when she's older. In my opinion, 2 screens on the back of the headrests doesn't cut it, that's all I'm saying.

That's great if one can add a drop down screen for the third row with the panoramic sunroof! Can you post a link about that? That would definitely solve the problem. Is it through Ford? I've had problems through after market drop down screens, they never last long, and you can't control most of them from the front drivers seat. I wouldn't want to have to go back to the third row every time to change a dvd. Hopefully its not like that.

I get the point of the extra screens and WiFi don’t get me wrong, less hassle and arguing, but..... if i want a denali, i want a denali. The new Fords aren’t doing it for me anymore, I’m liking the GM units. They feel more lively and look great. At the end of the day you’ve got to buy what you as the driver like.
