Not sure whether anyone, including the original poster, is still following this thread or not, but I did want to mention I am also from the Midwest with a 2017 Expedition EL Limited and have the same problem. After only one week of having purchased the vehicle, we drove through a hard rain and water started pouring out the interior ceiling vent onto the second row seat where our daughter sits.

Had it in to the dealer twice with no luck - keep getting the typical response: “can’t replicate the problem”. I suspect the culprit is the moonroof (which we never wanted or use in the first place), but so far can’t prove it. All in all, it has leaked into the interior twice since we purchased the vehicle just six weeks ago. Both times were in a heavy downpour with windy conditions.

ok, dumb question, but since you have a moonroof, did you check to ensure drainage holes are clear from the top all the way to the bottom?

I did also want to mention that just because the water comes in through the vent in the ceiling does not necessarily mean it is coming through the HVAC. In fact, since in our case the ceiling interior seems to be wet in other places, I suspect that it is coming in from a different source, collecting at the lowest point in the ceiling (i.e., the vent), then streaming through like water running through the drain in a bathtub.

I have a 17 EL XLT with a moonroof and around 30,000 miles. I take mine through an automated car wash a couple times a month. No leaks. I'm just adding to the tally of no issue but do believe there can be issues and I would be upset if Ford didn't fix it. These are not cheap vehicles. Jeez I couldn't imagine living in the North with water leak problems during the winter. I could just imagine what it would do to the vehicle with snow & salt melting on the roof while using the Expy then freezing while not in use. Yikes!

I’ve been taking our 2015 Limited EL through the car wash every other day for a month now. Not a single drop anywhere. I can only imagine that water has to be coming in through your sunroof somehow.

I just rolled past 40,000 miles this morning in my '17 and like most others, have never seen a drop of water inside my truck. Thank God because my '03 leaked like a sieve....no matter if the SR drains were cleared and 5 tubes of caulk poured under the windshield seals....

Every other day??? Holy crap... I hope that's a touch less car wash or you're going to scrub the paint right off of it. :)

Back to the OP:
I had a LOT of rear hatch leak issues with my 2003 Excursion. This thread means I need to take a closer look at the 2016 Expy. I just assumed that a newer model would be fine, but this thread proves otherwise and I might have smaller leaks that I just haven't noticed.
Sorry to hear you're having such a bad experience.
