A/C BUTTON ON MANUAL CLIMATE CONTROL STOPPED TURNING ON COMPRESSOR

2003 XLT 5.4 MANUAL CLIMATE CONTROLS.
Just the other day the A/C button on the manual climate control no longer turns on the compressor.
Ice cold air on Defrost and Defrost/Floor. Air comes out to proper vents so no vacuum
or door/blend door issues. Fan control works properly.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so how did you fix it ?

How was it fixed?

You asked for help from others although you didn't get any.

I was fortunate to get lots of helps from the folks at the ford-trucks forum which apparently has a lot more of Expedition owner members who right away came to my rescue, and then of course I did the actual repairs myself.
