Maybe a dump question but shall ask anyway.

Oil change for a 2017 is scheduled at 10K miles. I get a 'free' oil change when that mile is reached. But in the mean time (mid time) I am going to change the oil (myself) at the 5K point. Hard to believe but I can't find the Motorcraft 5w-30 'blend' oil? I find the 5w-20 but not the 30. But, I can find the Quaker State but it has a label of DEXOS on it which is a GM label. Should I stay away from this 'label' oil?

Ford is who said/says so. My vehicle is scheduled at 7500-10,000 depending on driving conditions. I suppose I would choose the 7500. But my point on this post was about the oil BRAND. I can't find Motorcraft 5w-30 which is what I need. Seems like everyone has 5w-20 but not the 30. So my original question was asking about using one I can find but it is labeled DEXOS which is a GM label need. Do I use it or stay away from it. That was my question.

Not too familiar with that type. I only get what ford uses. Next oil change will be a switch to full synthetic the dealership uses

Changing it at 5k intervals is a good idea, 10k is not a good interval no mater what ford says. 5W-30 Ford oil is available at most walmarts and auto stores if you look around. It will be at a Walmart for sure.

I read a study on oil changes in the '90's or so done on New York cabs. The study varied the brand of oil and the oil change interval. Engines were taken apart and analyzed after so many miles. The conclusion was that the brand of oil did not matter. Regular changes made all the difference. I think they advocated every 3K miles.

Since then I have bought the cheapest oil of the proper grade. When full synthetic came along I started using it, with changes every 8-10K miles. No engine problems, but we don't keep cars much past 120K miles. My 2003 Exp FX4 went 150K before selling it. Ran fine on 10K oil changes with the cheapest full synthetic I could find on sale. If you use regular oil, 3-5K oil changes are best. Blends, 5-7.5K between changes. Just my opinion and experience.

On further research, not exactly as I remembered it:

Auto Report

Two-Year, N.Y. Taxi Test Proves Motor Oils Alike, Magazine Says
Seattle Times News Services

NEW YORK - Premium motor oil and fancy additives are nothing more than slick sales, Consumer Reports says.

The consumer watchdog tested 20 types of motor oil under the most grueling conditions - in a fleet of 75 New York taxis - for nearly two years.

The results: There is little difference among brands as long as the container carries the starburst symbol, which means the oil meets a standard set by the American Petroleum Institute for additives needed to keep modern engines running.

The study also found:

-- Changing a car's oil every 7,500 miles, or at the automaker's suggested interval, is sufficient. Although some mechanics recommend oil changes every 3,000 miles, that only wastes money and adds to the nation's oil-disposal problems.

-- Expensive synthetic oils worked no better than conventional motor oil in the taxis, which drove 4.5 million miles in stop-and-go traffic. But synthetic oils may be worthwhile for cars in extreme driving conditions: very hot or very cold climates, or in cars with a high engine load.

-- Additives such as Slick 50, STP Engine Treatment and STP Oil Treatment showed no significant reduction in friction and engine wear compared with engines using the same oil without the additives. Consumer Reports said additives are unnecessary as long as the oil used meets the API standard.

The findings are reported in the July issue of the magazine.

I know some people on here do 3500 mile changes with full synthetic due to the DI issues the ecoboosts have. Gotta keep the insides as clean as you can or they will get gummed up. @NorthGeorgia i also recommend cleaning your intake manifold MAP sensor at every oil change. This can cause below average fuel economy if it’s oiled up

The DEXOS tag on the Quakerstate just means it is dexos approved for GM warranty purposes. That's their out for engine failure... "sorry, you didn't use a dexos approved oil, your engine is no longer covered by warranty"

Well.....I can see there will be a lot of 'personal' preferences.....myself included. I too don't really agree with the 10K oil interval but......... Ford says that 'can' be an acceptable interval ..... depending on the type of driving being done. I have checked my oil 'life' % and it is showing 57% remaining and that's with 4400 miles on the odometer; which would seem to indicate the 10K oil change?? No I won't wait till 10K, I'm looking to change the oil now. BUT I CAN'T FIND THE OIL.....ANYWHERE. None of the Walmart's have it......except I did find it in a quart bottle. Why didn't I buy it....there were only a couple. The quart costs shy of $5 and the 5 quart bottle costs shy of $19....a big savings being able to buy it in the 5qt bottle. Plenty of 5w-20.....but none of the 30?? The strange thing is there is not much in the 5w-30 syn/blend in any brand EXCEPT one's labeled HIGH MILEAGE, which is advertised for 75K+ mile vehicles?? Sooooo, I have a couple of weeks left to change the oil (going on a trip so want to change it before going). Got the filter, plenty of those, just need the proper weight oil.

OK....I am starting to wonder if the HIGH MILEAGE that all the manufacture's are putting on their 5w-30 is just a advertisement gimmick? Since most older vehicles seem to have been using 10w-30 is the 5w a gimmick to get the older vehicles to use it.
I found a name brand oil that has 5w-30 but they too use the HIGH MILEAGE in their label. But........part of their description does say:

Havoline High Mileage Motor Oils with Deposit Shield Technology are also recommended for use in lower-mileage vehicles, including new cars under warranty.

So I'm tempted to buy this since I cannot find the Motorcraft. I've used Havoline in years past in other vehicles and had no problems. Soooooooooooooooo
