On another post it was mentioned the Expy didn't get a heating steering wheel as an option until the new 2018 model. Is this true?

Does any 15-17 Owner have a working heated steering wheel option on their vehicle? Trying to determine if it's possible to add this to my 17 Expy. Thanks.

I ordered and purchased a new 2015 Expedition Limited 4x4 - a heated steering wheel was not available on any trim level through 2017 (standard or extra-cost option).

Ford only used the heated steering wheel on their uplevel vehcicles such as the Focus.............

Another thing I don't like about my Expedition.

And asked if any 15-17 owner has the working heated steering wheel option.

There was no heated steering wheel option.
Yeah I know, OP obviously didn’t trust the other guy who told him they weren’t available until 18. Just a redundant thread

Some folks can do work themselves and add options that were not available originally. Perhaps the OP was seeking information to get a handle on what can be done, as he said. The first step would be checking availability, which sounds like what he's trying to do.

The limiting factor here would be the "clockspring" that carries power from the steering column to the wheel. All the 3rd Gens share the same one, I believe, which has a bunch of terminals to provide transfer of radio and heater controls, horn and cruise control circuits to the steering wheel. While many cars don't use all the conductors, they are all low amperage, so they probably wouldn't carry the load for the heater on a 2018 heated wheel. The OP can check this all out of course by comparing the wiring diagrams of a 2018 vs 2017 and compare the wire gauge for the heater harness vs the available leads on an earlier clockspring. He could then compare part numbers for heater vs non-heated clocksprings, Gen 3 vs Gen 4 cars.

Now if anyone had a heater on his 3rd Gen Expedition, the research would have been done for him. That information would be more helpful to the lad than a string on insulting remarks based on information gleaned from a Google search.

Uhh...if it’s ok with you I was double-checking the information posted. Plus, if the info is correct (no HSW until 18) I wanted to see if anyone has modded their Expy yet and see what they did to get the HSW function.

Isn’t that part of the value of these forums...gather info/learn?

The real issue with adding a HSW to the 15-17 Expedition is that it shares the basic architecture with the 11-14 F-150, which also was never available with the HSW. Otherwise it would be a simple swap with possibly some wiring, because the existing architecture would readily support it.
As the APIM is shared with vehicles that did come with a heated steering wheel, it is possible that the outputs are present and active for the ability to add one once you activate it in FORScan. However, I haven’t been able to find out if any of the vehicles that came with one are physically capable of being swapped into the Expedition, nor if the wiring would be compatible in the steering column if it does physically fit.
There are no examples of anyone swapping a HSW into an 11-14 F-150 on any of the forums that I’m a member of. Same with searching through the web.

Heated steering wheel is available on 2015+ F150 which is different from 2015 Expedition (it's more advanced with more and different options that we can't get like 360 camera and adaptive cruise control). I've seen only one thread that I know of where someone added it to an F150. You'd have to swap the clockspring, but that could be the easy part. Problems for us include the fact the steering wheels don't match (the buttons are different). There is also a module to control the steering wheel heating element (it has temp sensors and a feedback loop, it doesn't just turn "on" and stay that way). In the F150 thread, programming was needed to get the module working and for the heated steering wheel button to show up in the 8-inch display. I for one would like to attempt this swap, but further study is needed to see how to get around the steering buttons being different.
