Hi All
New here and new to ford 7.3s. I have a e350 7.3 2003. I bought the OBDMX scan tool. I like knowing whats going on with my vehicles. The van has been converted to 4x4 and is a bit of an expedition vehicle so important to know that. Here are my questions.

When going up hill especially big steep hills the more power the van uses I get this vacuum cleaner sound. The more gas I give it the louder it gets. Almost like a small jet engine. I know the high pitch whine of a turbo this is much deeper and louder. Someone told me they thought it might be the waste gate. Is this what it is? Is this normal?

My other question is I have not been able to find how much boost is normal. Using the obdmx tool at most em getting 9.5 psi and that is going up a solid hill and pedal to the metal. is this correct?

thanks in advance

I’d recommend joining Ford Truck Enthusiasts, great forum with great moderators and a MUCH MUCH more general audience to ask questions than here. Your only going to find Expedition owners here with 4.6,5.4 and 3.5 engines. Lots of 7.3 owners over at FTE.

Don't expect to have very many replies since the Expedition didn't come with the 7.3.

Check all of the intake pipes & boots for leaks or cracks. Make sure all the clamps are tight (should be the constant pressure turbo clamp).

Boost will be dependent on the hp/torque the engine is setup for. When I worked at the bus barn here the usual wot boost was @14 psi on the Cat C7's. I would expect the Navi to be close to that.
