Like a lot of individuals on here, with out 1st generation expeditions, our dash boards, with age and heat expansion and contraction, have began or is currently pealing or flaking off. What a pain, and frustrating notion to see.

This ultimately stressed me out to the point of being in tears and embarrassment. Not to mention I live in SW Florida, so therefore after 16 years the heat just took a toll on the dash paint...resulting in pealing and flaking off.

I originally had thought about getting a wood dash kit and cover it up (still might down the line - eh, who knows), but ultimately the task of fixing it got the best of me. So after researching replacement dash board from salvage yards and/or replacement OEM's or even aftermarket replacement parts deemed too damned expensive - I researched and considered someone painting it for me...nope, too expensive as well.

Therefore, I decided for almost 6-8 months trying to find out if there is any touch up paint or OEM replacement paint to assist in refinishing this. Well, a call for Ford Motor Company was no help, they are a bunch of morons who wouldn't know the butts from a hole in the ground, in trying to assist me in this en-devour.

After addition research on the net, I found out there is a company out there that specializes in OEM type paints for vehicles, for touch ups on dash boards, trims, etc. The company is called Color Bond.
After a couple of correspondences and verification with local auto paint shops, it was determined that this was the way to go.

I found the OEM paint code for my interior on my 2001 Ford Expedition Eddie Bauer Ed. (Estate Green Ext. / Med Parchment Int.), ordered me a can.....and when arrived was ready to refinish the front dash (around the radio console, the air vents, the ash tray and the plug outlet door). Tested a small place to see how well it match.......S.O.B. It was the wrong color!!!!!!!!! It did not match!!!!

Frustrated and pissed-off to no end, and further research, I discovered that the interior dash, consoles and doors are all not the same color!!!!!!!!!! The front dash board is not Medium Parchment as Ford Motor Company and the almighty codes led to believe. I finally found out the mental giants of FMC failed to identify the other interior color codes for the rest of the vehicles' interiors for '99-02.

So finally what I found out was that the front dash board is (120) Ford Med. Dk Parchment & the door panels, the center consoles (cup holder area) is in fact (121) Ford Med. Parchment.

So after discovering this little tid bit.....I found the correct paint, now having to cans for the entire interior (no complaints), I have done a touch up job that looks great. In addition, one of the two paints is also designated for the exterior trim (i.e. running boards, back bumper and front bumper).

I have the same problem with my 08 Eddie Bauer, the paint on the silver colored interior trim is so bad you can scratch it off with your fingernail

I got the Colorbond paint for it, its correct color but the tint is slightly off I figure this is because the original has faded a bit, but it looks fine if its not pointed out and I paint the whole piece not just try to touch up the scratched area. I just don't know how the durability is, but I am happy with it at this point. Its only been on 2 weeks or so on the passenger side of the side of the center console and no one sits there most of the time

I didn't have any problem trying to figure out what the color was, I think it was called greystone in my case

I went through the same issue with my 97 expedition. I took all of the trim pieces off the dashboard to repaint them and realized that I had a mix of two separate shades of grey, with one slightly darker than the other. The good news is that Duplicolor makes an interior paint with two colors that were a pretty good match

Going to be tackling this, this weekend but I’m gonna just paint it black after I sand the dash and scuff it up good, may even plastic coat it .

Was it the color of my center trim piece? I hit my dash with armor-all a few times per year I'd recommend it to anyone. Keeps it all in good shape and even restores.

Is that the new radio you retrofitted into there?

yes it is.... its all finger printed up in the pic above. Before I put in the ford nav unit it was a basic radio/cd player.
