I just purchased a 2017 Ford Expedition Limited. I noticed that the back up camera shows only the lines to indicate how far I am from an object. I thought it would also show the curved lines indicating where I was backing up. It doesn't. Do I have it or not? My wife's old Explorer had it and it's an XLT.

I wondered the same thing when I bought ours. I’m used to it now...not sure why it’s a feature in some cameras and not others.

I was disappointed not to see curved lines too. My guess is the software would need to know the steering wheel position to implement this and there is simply no input from it.

I have a 2015 Expediton Limited 4x4, purchased new.

Your vehicle owner’s manual should explain all the features of the backup camera system.

It works fine but I was just use the curved lines showing where you back up at an angle. Again my wife's old Explorer had them. No problem.

It really sucks when Ford puts features like this on other vehicles and not our trucks. The F150 has it, the Explorer has it, and I'd bet other models do as well. There is a module called Steering Angle Sensor Module (SASM) on other models, that is likely recording the position of the wheel and putting that data on the CAN bus. Maybe the steering column in our trucks doesn't have this module so there is no steering angle input to the backup camera display.

Been using mirrors all my life so a camera back there is handy but not paramount. Mirrors let me see the sides of the truck and help avoid mailbox posts that don't show up in the camera. I do find the rear camera extremely valuable for hooking up to trailers and it saves me several "get out and looks."
