Good luck with those Harbor Freight gauges. I had to swap them out three different times at the local store for different reasons. I ended up getting some better gauges off of amazon.com.

Brian, my suspicions as well, although they advertise 2% accuracy. I work in instrumentation for a large chemical company (DuPont), and regularly use high precision calibration equipment. Just let me say, they surprisingly fell within the 2% they claim when tested. They tested perfectly for leak-test as well. Did I mention $48 on sale and with a coupon?! I couldn't resist. I also couldn't bring myself to struggle with just the Wally world low-side inaccurate built-in fill gauge. A cheap set of gauges can conceivably save that much in wasted fillers, Freon and time, in addition to parts. It beat having nothing. Now to just be able to interpret the readings.

Run the system as is but monitor the lines going into the evaporator in the engine compartment. If you start to see them icing up the charge is too low. If the compressor starts to cycle the low pressure switch may be tripping.

On the lower speed settings you have less "warm" air flowing through the evaporator. This may cause the condensate to freeze on the coil and block the entire evap. Should that happen, bring fresh air into the cabin by turning off "max air".

Before I found my clutch-coil connector problem, I requested a quote from my mechanic to change the coil or the entire clutch assembly. They returned with a quote for the entire compressor with clutch. They claim the clutch by itself is no longer available for that year.

They quoted $795 for complete compressor with clutch, and recharging. Although now I don't need anything replaced, does that price seem unusually low? Maybe it's still fresh in my mind what they charged my wife for that similar job at the Honda stealership. My mechanic's business does seem to have been very honest with my previous work, possibly because the owner and all his mechanics know me from attending the same church. It's just a shame when a simple problem requires changing so many parts that aren't bad.

Anytime you change a compressor the receiver/drier needs to be changed also or the warranty is voided. If they didn't include that the price isn't bad. If they did then its fantastic.
