    gear ratio decoder

Bjamin, welcome to the board. the 2000 you have (same as mine) with an H9 axle is the 3.55 limited slip diff. Chips will not change the gear ratio but are for engine performance modifications. As to worth the money, i'm not familiar with the performance gains achieved from a chip--maybe...

    airbox mod

this is an easy modification that can be done in about an hour for those of us who choose to use the K & N drop in filter. remove the intake tube and filter from the airbox. to remove the air box from the body lift it, from the bottom, from it's mount on the fender well. (it is mounted useing...

00' Expy 2wd Lug Nut Turque?

Todd the lug nut torque for your 2000 Expy should be 150 ft lbs. ford used 12 m.m. studs from 97 thru 11/99 on both the f150 and expy. these studs have a torque spec of 100 ft lbs. all expys built after 11/99 thru 2002 have 14 m.m. studs--torque spec is 150 ft lbs. hope this helps, brian

    gear ratio decoder

the following might be helpful for those who tow or are going to change the size of their tires. the code definitions for the gear ratio (shown on the door tag as "axle") are as follows: 18 -- 3.08 19 -- 3.55 26 -- 3.73 27 -- 3.31 H9 -- 3.55 limited slip B6 -- 3.73 limited slip 4.6 l...

Will the 4.6 tow my 29' ft Airstream??

NCXLT an important factor in towing is gear ratio. mine, for example, a 2000 with 3.55's and 1500 lbs behind it will roll fine on level terrain but wants to shift down if you even see a hill in the distance. a head wind will keep it out of O/D entirely. ( i know the book says to tow with O/D...

    Clicking Sound

Big Eddie B not sure on the clicking/popping noise--is it temprature sensitive (extreme cold or hot), front or rear, left or right side? under body nioses can be very hard to diagnose. my superduty pops once on the front right side of the cab floor on each hard pull form a stop--ford tech...

How do you get the hubcaps off?

kistler I'm not sure which wheel you have, I took a finger off a pair of leather gloves (the pinki finger, actually) and stuck the tip of the screw driver thru the finger tip end. the leather keeps the stem of the screw driver from scuffing up the wheel. Hope this helps.

    Total loss!

    shaking at 70+ MPH

tgilbert it is not unreasonable for you to expect NO vibration, whether there is a TSB or not. a tire that has been properly balanced and has a vibration problem when new, will always have a vibration problem. if the ford dealer won't get this handled go to a tire dealer that handles...

    which wax do you use?

dave i've heard good stuff about Zaino, but haven't tried it yet. some say the shine is even better than meguires. let us know your experiences with it. also have heard of a product called Adams that is supposed to give great shine and protection. anyone used Adams yet? side note--i hit...

    which wax do you use?

I tryed the Meguires 3 step system this week, cleaner, polish and wax. Gotta say is works great. Cleaned up all the tiny spider web scratches (even the scratches from cats jumping on and off). It also gives a deep appearance to the finish. All three steps took about 2 1/2 hours, but well...

    4.6 towing performance

Deano A cat back will help but you also need to let more air in. On my 97 4.6L I did exhaust first (cat back single in dual out) and noticed a little better performance. Installed a K & N drop in filter and that helped too. I also drilled 1 1/2 holes in my airbox so the airflow wasn't...

    fuel millage

James 17.8 is probably pretty good for a 5.4 with no mods. I'm told a chip will help with fuel mileage but you'll prob. have to run premium gas (more$$$$). As far as the ride-- these thing are sprung simular to the f150s so they have a little rougher ride. The 03's got independent rear...

Why do you drive an Expedition?

DAMN_FORD just couldn't bring myself to buy a chebby tahoe, but did test drive one. didn't like it at all. ride too mushy, doors didn't sound solid when you shut them and sat too low to the pavement. i know some people who do drive the competition and see alot of things i don't like once...

Why do you drive an Expedition?

Had a '97 light duty F250--needed more doors, seats and space for the dogs. I miss my truck but am enjoying the ride and space in the Expy. Its nice to have room for 4 adults, 2 labs and a weekends worth of stuff.
