    Rear Power Windows

Nope. If you look at the picture you posted, you will see that the window cannot go all the way down because of the wheel well! The window (within its frame) is wider than the lower part of the door (which is even narrower than the pic shows).

    When to get new shocks???

I agree with monsta, new shocks are in order and will definitely tighten up the ride. I am at ~115K, and am about to change mine for the second time. Also, as for another item I am about to change, remember that EVERYTHING on your Expy rides on rubber bushings; shocks, sway bars, suspension...

    Rear end differential metal

You should not have "pieces of metal" in there! Now, the oil drain plug has a magnet on it, on the inside edge, so that it can pull out metal from the oil, and I assume this is where you found the metal pieces. You should only have some "sludge" (very fine metal) on this magnet, which is normal...

    Expedition differences - Newbie alert!

Basically the difference between the XLT and the Eddie Bauer in the '97 Expys' are rather simple. The Eddie Bauer basically had the majority of options already installed. The XLT could have everything the Eddie Bauer did, but they had to be added on. The Eddie Bauer has the following as...

    brakes

YEs, most people do simply put new pads in. But resurfacing the rotors is truely the proper way to bring the brakes back to the best operating condition, as it gives the pads a new surface to break in with. Over time, the rotors will wear, leaving a nice glossy (and glazed if overheated)...

    brakes

A little more info is needed!!! - Did you just change the pads, or did you change the calipers? - Did you get the rotors resurfaced? - Was it spongy before you changed things? - When was the last time you changed the brake fluid? - How do the brake lines (rubber) look? So, not knowing...

'98 EB Expy door ajar malfunction

A common problem with the Expy's is the door ajar switch. Before we go into taking averything apart, try spraying a GOOD dose of WD40 into the door latch area, where the switch is also located, and work the door handle arounnd for awhile. Very often it is just a sticky switch, and this cure...

    Replacing Serpentine Belt

Take a look under the hood. On my '98 there is a sticker that shows how the belt is installed. It may show how to do this for both AC and non-AC applications.

    need advice on towing

OK, I can really help out here. I just purchased an '05 Fleetwood Niagara, which is at this moment the heaviest & largest pop-up on the market. My '98 tows it just fine, so you should not have any problems.....BUT, just as monsta eluded to, you have to know your weights, and that means...

Transfer case electric shift motor stuck in 4LO

Oh, and by the way, if you really are in 4LO (really have the 4 wheel drive engaged), DO NOT drive around on dry pavement as you will tear up the transmission/transfer case/CV joints etc. These trucks are not designed to be FULL TIME 4 wheel drive. The reason is that the drivetrain is physically...

Transfer case electric shift motor stuck in 4LO

OK, I will try to look something up in my factory manual. But FYI, for you to put the Expy into or out of 4LO, you MUST: 1) be in neutral 2) with your foot on the brake 3) going less than 5 kph (I really don't understand this part, I mean, your foot is on the brake...)

Transfer case electric shift motor stuck in 4LO

Are you in Neutral when you are attempting to change to/out of 4LO?

98 Eddie Bauer Rear Wiper Wont Work.

I really can't tell you much about how to cure the P0171 problem, but I would have the codes cleared (you can take it to AutoZone, and they will do it for free), and see if it comes back. Could have been a stray problem. Another thought, when was your fuel filter last changed? In terms of the...

Overhead lights stay on sometimes while driving.

The switch is part of the door latch mechanism as I stated above. Use the WD40 per my instructions above.

Overhead console compass is stuck on "N"

Try driving a different direction! Seriously, try calibrating the compass with the directions that are in the owners manual. I do not think it is related to the light issue you have.

Overhead lights stay on sometimes while driving.

Does the "Door Ajar" light also stay on? How about when you try to lock the doors, do the lights stay on as well? Although I have not heard of your symptom by itself, these things are usually the door switch in the door latch mechanism. Try spraying a liberal amount of WD40 into the door latch...

    engine tick

Why be so hasty? Does the engine run? Does it burn oil? Does it still have power? If your answers are Yes/No/Yes, then keep running it. Try using synthetic motor oil, and maybe go up a weight class (10W-30 instead of 5W-30). In any case, get the most out of it before you change the...

Is my 98 Expy better offroad than a 2004 Expy?

Just go to the Rancho website: http://www.gorancho.com/products/literature.stm This will give you the literature. Then do a google and find out where to buy. I got mine from Summit Racing. Easy to install. While you are at it, change the corner shocks to the RS9000X's, and totally...

98 Eddie Bauer Rear Wiper Wont Work.

Rear wiper problem on '98's have been a well discussed problem. The problem is with the internal relays in the wiper motor. The only solution is to replace it with a new one (actually, none are new, they are all rebuilt now). Anyway, it is a simple and relatively cheap thing to replace by...

    cold heat

From my experience, it sounds like your thermostat is shot. They usually fail open, and since the guage drops, it is consistant with what you are experiencing: cooling without any regulation. As usual, the thermostat lives under the upper radiator hose attachment where is enters the engine...

    Shocks

Oops, I made an assumption. I checked Rancho's website and they stop @ '02 for both 2x & 4x. Thanks Monsta for correcting me! I am wondering if a phone call to Rancho would find a shock that fits? Often manufacturers are slow in updating their manuals.

    Shocks

No, you can get them for both 2x and 4x.

    cold heat

What does the temp gauge do? The 98 EB has the tow package, which means it has "super cooling", and remote oil and tranny cooler. If it is real cold out, it could cool things too much (ever see semi's with the radiators mostly blocked off in winter). My 98 EB does not do this, but I notice...

    Life of an Expy

Mine is a '98 EB now with ~110k on it. I bought mine used with 14k on it in 9/01. I have done nothing but good preventative maintenance. As long as you do this, I think you will have a number of years left in yours!
