poor lighting
I would suggest to inspect the wiring of the headlights. Usually inside the engine compartment the wiring may get corroded specially if the insulation is punctured or not protected properly. 1999 Exp. XLT Electrical Problems
I know you mentioned checking the fuses but did you checked the fuses withing the engine compartment? Sometimes those fuses brake first before the one under the dash.- flakito1000

radio install kit
I dont think there are options for other radio install kits. I got mine with the 1/2 din holder but instead I trimmed it and added an EQ for better audio control. Too bad I can't post pictures here...- flakito1000

How do you turn off the Interior Lights
The only way I could thinks of if to cut the main wire that goes to the courtesy lights and have an on/off switch before it splits to all the lights. That way you got the option of turning it off when wanted or leave the switch on for normal operation.- flakito1000

Wow that's pretty scary. I got a 2001 xpy as well and I could understand your fustration of not knowing what it is. The only thing I could think of is the brain gone bad. Can you keep me posted if you get to fix it. Sorry, but got no clue of what could be.- flakito1000

Speaker wires
The easier way to test the polarities on the speaker wires is by using a multimeter. Set your multimeter to test DC Voltage. Connect the leads from your multimeter to the speaker wires coming from the radio. Dont connect speakers yet until you do the neccesary reading. Play a CD or...- flakito1000
