Rack &a pinion problem
Those little knocks you hear going over bumps may be a rotting radiator support. As far as the rack is concerned, I find there is too much play in them. Also check the steering shaft components.- scorpytunes

Steering play
2006 has always had excessive steering wheel play. About an inch. when under warranty the dealer agreed it was in the steering rack and replaced it only to find that it did not solve the problem. I'm still convinced it is in the rack, but it seems the only ones available are reman units from...- scorpytunes
