Brake lights work, tail lights dont

cool, thanks. I got a multimeter and a 12V meter and checked it out and I get no reading at the tail lights. Also, it appears that I was wrong and 4 fuses related to the lights DON'T work, but the fuses themselves are fine, it the slots they are in that don't work....ie, I switched those fuses...

Brake lights work, tail lights dont

......but obviously they are the same bulbs. So, my son's 97 expy has an issue. When you turn the headlights on, they come on, but the tail lamps don't. But if you press on the brakes, the brakes light up so it's not the bulbs nor a wiring problem near the back end. Also, his dash lights don't...

coolant leak in 97 expy 4.6

it's at the bottom at the crank pulley. A little more research and the fact that the truck started squealing has me convinced it is the water pump bearings gone bad. Thanks again

coolant leak in 97 expy 4.6

hey all, my son's 97 expy with 4.6 has a coolant leak (not too bad) and it seems to be coming from whatever is the lowest accessory on the belt. What part is that and why would it be leaking? It is completely dry and green free everywhere else around and above that part. I can't find a 4.6...

I saw a fabtech one once....we're talking front skid plate and not ones for the rocker panels right?

    My 97

you're not serious are you? Did you pick that up for $750? I've spent $750 just on ball joints...how did you get a whole rest of the truck with that?

A/C and freon and such and such

well I'll be damned...it's right there. Even the mechanic that was doing my brakes said there was no way to know how much freon these cars take....you just fill it til it stops. And all we had to do was look at the radiator cover...or ask the good people on this site. Thanks

A/C and freon and such and such

Does anybody know from experience about how much freon a 1st gen expy can take if it has been totally emptied? I'm curious about how many cans of this stuff I might need before I proceed. Thanks

Going to paint it...need some advice

thanks all for the advice and while I don't like the smooth glossy look generally, that ranger looks good. I like that Anyway, since expys never had a black interior, going to the junk yard isn't an option...although I do believe the Harley F150's had black interiors...I think...or maybe it...

Going to paint it...need some advice

ok so rubbing alcohol, then scotch brite scuffing, then primer and paint. I'm going to start on that next weekend hopefully. My only dilemma is the a/c vents. That is going to be hard because I can't leave them brown if everything else is black

    Helppppp

just about any mechanic should be able to do about anything with the engine....doesn't need to be a ford one. What is the problem with your engine?

Going to paint it...need some advice

so will a can actually work and get professional results or should I invest in a sprayer? Again, I'm only doing a few brown plastic pieces black

Going to paint it...need some advice

    2000 XLT expedition rehabilitation thread

Sounds like you are having a blast doing all that and honestly...there is no comparison between taking something old that you like and fixing it up and just buying a new car and watching it depreciate. If you gave me $40,000 to spend on a new expedition or $15,000 to fix up an old one I'd take...

Going to paint it...need some advice

If you will refer to the pics below, I shall explain my attempt at a new project. The tan interior on a stock expy is gross....not the tan part but the two day old coffee meets two week old baby shit brown used for accent pieces....see pic that's not my interior...I found it on google so if...

    Replacing the rear heater core

too stressed at the time to take pics but it basically boils down to- drain radiator (luckily mine was mostly drained thanks to this stupid heater core) open rear hatch and remove - rear seat - rear hatch skid plate - c pillar plastic cover (driver side) (you will need to disconnect...

    Replacing the rear heater core

This morning I smelled coolant while driving and when I stopped I saw coolant dripping out of a hose at the rear of my 99 expy. It appears that I may need to replace the rear heater core. Is this something thatan average joe (my name's not joe) should be able to do outside of the a/c flush and...

    Headers

shorty headers are worthless and unlike a 5.0 fox mustang they are NOT at all fun to put on. Also, overlooked often but if you wanna decrease temps (slightly) remove the sound deadening hood liner...traps lots of heat

    Stealership

Mine was about $750 for upper and lowers on both sides....it's spendy. What's worse is the fabtech lift kit I have requires chevy uppers so....it's kind of a given they will keep breaking more often. Actually...I find this interesting. When I ran 33's I went 5 years without needing to...

    Blowing out spark plugs

I wouldn't make many assumptions about the safety of the 2v 4.6 vs 5.4 etc....Talk to the mustang guys (as I have in my local club) and you will know that all the 4.6 2v mustangs (96-04) all were subject to thrown spark plugs after their first plug change. I would assume it's the same for the...
