Bad Luck continues......

You can do a contunuity test. Some of these heaters are thermostat controlled. That is if you plug it in when the engine is warm and the weather is also, you might think it does not work. I checked the books, and even a kit that was on the shelf. My E-bay shop manuals have not arrived yet, and I couldn't find a picture I could scan. There are outboard needle bearings. The carrier has it's own bearings. Hope that is helpful.- ecqm8000

There will always be some variance between cylinders, it may be hard to measure but there will be some. Compression checks are to find burned or bent valves, bad gaskets or rings and even if the valve timing is in the right place. I am kind of leaning toward what plug are in it and if changed, was it done correctly? If you are an original owner and know who did the plugs, I would not worry much. Engine choice for 98 Expedition Eddie Bauer
It is hard to argue with boost, if ultimate power is what you are after. Reliability, low grade (cheap) fuel, I'd go with the 5.4. I intend on towing with my Expedition, but for a long haul or heavy load I'll take the Diesel.- ecqm8000

If as you say, all bearings/crush sleeve/shims are in place and the pinion nut it tightened to the yoke. It is NOT possible for the pinion to "reach back" to the carrier. In general compression should be even in all cyls. Wet/dry (how long since it last ran) piston rings will have an impact on PSI. That engine sounds like it is a good engine. My guess is those shocks are ka-put (that is a technical term). On any encounter with a bump, the tire assembly is bouncing. Similar to driving on a wash board road with good shocks.
