Try putting an 8ft length of lumber in the back of the Suburban. With the second row folded down...
My '96 Suburban can do it so can my '11 Expedition EL. But the '11 Suburban I looked at wouldn't.
Not a big deal as I haul lumber in my Suburban now, but when the Expedition gets older it will...
I have a 2011 Limited. If you put it in Tow/Haul mode and apply the brakes while going downhill it will downshift into 5th even 4th depending on how hard you are braking.
Unfortunately there is no "manual" control over the downshift. I really don't like giving up my control to the computer...
You are absolutely right. My wife just bought a 2012 Prius and she is giddy every 2 weeks after filling the tank. But the extra cost of the vehicle over a 40mpg econobox would never pay for the fuel savings over the life of the car. So we are paying for that "giddy feeling". To me it is...
I for one try to get the most out of my Expy as far as gas mileage. But I feel you are going down a path that just isn't really winnable (if that's a word). Expy's by nature are not efficient mileage vehicles. My wife's Prius is.
I think the best thing you can do for yourself is purchase...
Congrats on the new rig. I tow a boat about 3500-4000 lbs with my 2011 Limited EL. Pulls well. I have a few suggestions:
1) Put some miles on the Expy for break-in. I read my owners manual and there was a descrepancy in it with regard to break-in for towing. One part of the manual said...
I don't believe the audible texting is supported with the iphone...
I have the 4S iphone and I heard it wasn't supported so I haven't persued it. If it is I would like to know.

It wasn't something I had to look at when I bough my '11 EL since all EL's have the 3.73 rear end. But optioning out a new '12 the Heavy Duty Tow Option is different and exclusive to the 3.73 option.
So according to the web site the 3.73 gears is not automatic with the Heavy Duty Towing...
The same scenario happened to me probably 5yrs ago to my 1996 Chevy Suburban. One piece from the engine compartment to the rear A/C. Mine rubbed up against the frame as it went out of the engine compartment. $125 part but installing it would total the truck.
I ended up repairing it with a...
I wished I asked this question before plunking $250+ on my weathertech floormats. I have a 2011 with stone interior and did get the tan mats. Don't like the contrast. Personally I didn't like the OEM Black mats as they stood out too much in such a light interior.
The fit is great up front...
I suspect it is cheaper than replacing my 2011 Key Fob. I missplaced my 2nd key and remote start FOB probably within a month of purchasing my Expy. Since 2 keys are required to program the new key, I have to have a dealer program my second key. So that means, $105 for the key, $100 to...
If you have the remote key fob that looks like this then you need the document I suggested in the 3rd post or so. 'PROGRAMMING - GEN2 BRONZE WITH OR WITHOUT "MYKEY"'
To find it you need to create a login for http://techservices.codesystems.com/
Then Choose "Ford" option which is...
I've got a 2011 Limited.
I've noticed a few drops that have come down the inside of the back glass. But has never puddled. I live in an area that gets 120" of rain a year and most of it in the Winter/Spring. I haven't considered it a real problem as it has been very slight and...
Headliner DVD systems have not been a factory option for some time. Rear DVD systems offered are the INVISION headrest package. So I am not familiar with your system. I'm assuming since you said NEW it is a 2012 model.
Johnny
Sorry I can't help with experience with this as I am new to the Expedition but removing the driveshaft and driving it will probably not necessarily pinpoint the problem with the transfer case as the hubs will lock and parts will be moving in the front differencial.
You will need to put it on...
Wikipedia does a pretty good job of year to year changes...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Expedition
Doesn't capture everything and for each model. I didn't see the 120V outlet in it but my 2011 Limited does have it for instance.
Johnny
My 2011 Limited Expy does the same. I always assumed it was boot up time for the NAV unit. I never really timed it but if I am in a hurry the backup camera is never on before I back up it just says "FORD".
I think it is just the way it is... Gotta back up the old fashion way or wait.
Johnny
I'm not at all familiar with old Expy's but before you go to the extent of replacing the Fuel Pump there may be something to try.
I had a Suburban that acted the same way. Does the '97 have a distributor cap? My Suburban had a distributor cap go bad and was arching internally. My symptoms...
The only thing that kept me from buying a King Ranch was the color combination. Not my taste. But I am really leary of the leather that is in my limited. In fact, the drivers side cushion seems a little under filled on the side bolster section and it is already and I mean within a month of...
I purchased a 2011 Limited EL loaded last June
1) Navagation satelight radeo with possible backup camera
Definitely worth it. Backup camera is awesome.
2) Guage/triponiter/milage reading button moved from speedomiter area to above the radio and replace the fake buttons
I have no way...
