Ok so switched the cam sensors from side to side and got a code P0012 and a pending code of P0345. I guess next is to look at the vct and see what they look like. Then it will be looking at possibly a oil pressure gauge install to see what the hot idle is.- BrandonH13

None so far, still have the drivers side camshaft sensor unplugged and its running just like it should. Has power and doesn't die out. Checked the codes and getting the same 0345 & 0340 codes. Drove it this morning but unplugged the camshaft sensor on the drivers side and it didn't really stumble at all and didn't die out. I have unplugged the VCT sensor before and it stumbles but doesn't die either....so should I switch out...- BrandonH13

Sorry to bring back an old Thread, but just an update on it and maybe get some help. We haven't droven the Ford since pretty much last May. Our lawyer gave the company til september 1st to inspect it and then we are "free" to do what we want with it. I had to get a new battery the other day...- BrandonH13

Sorry to bring back an old Thread, but just an update on it and maybe get some help. We haven't droven the Ford since pretty much last May. Our lawyer gave the company til september 1st to inspect it and then we are "free" to do what we want with it. I had to get a new battery the other day...- BrandonH13

Oil Pan Removal

Low MpG's
Haven't driven mine in a year, but even with the phasers not working like they were suppose to I was getting 14-15. That is with the 3V though- BrandonH13

Pulled my oil pan -- found a surprise ! *** PICS ****
How much different would it be to do all this on a 05 3v? The one I bought had all the timing stuff (chains, tensioners, guide, phasers) changed and the shop that did the work said they thought the guide broke, but yet when they pushed it "back together" it didn't look like anything was...- BrandonH13

5.4 issue, going crazy!
Sounds kind of like what my motor was doing. Ford said it was also timed incorrectly, but it would be ok til warm. Then the cam phasers would start acting up, but ford said it was because my oil pressure was fluctuating so the phasers aren't getting the pressure they need. They tried to tell...- BrandonH13

We picked the truck up from the repair place. Seems to run better and doesn't get AS bad of the knocking sound. Still wants to die and will die after warmed up. When they took it to ford, ford said it was off timing probably by a tooth because the phasers fire one and then the other right after...- BrandonH13

The shop took it apart to see if when they installed the timing chains, guide, arms, phasers if they messed something up. That is when they "realized" the tensioners were now bad and replaced both of them. They put it back together and it did the same, so that is when they took it to ford. I...- BrandonH13

No the shop still has it til we get everything situated with a lawyer. The person that said to run thicker weight oil was the tech at ford. He said he has heard of it helping the pressure. Sorry guess I should go more into it... Talked to the place that did the timing and he said when they got it, it was opposite and it would rattle when it was cold and would smooth out when warm. It was a small dealer and they said since we didn't "notify" them and took it straight to the place that did all the timing stuff for them that we are "out" of their 30 day warranty. Pretty much going to have to get a lawyer, file complaints and other things to try and get them to help out...- BrandonH13

Talked to the tech yesterday. He said he has been the engine guy for 14 years and actually had 2 other trucks up there for the same problem the day he had mine. HELP!!! 05 5.4 oil pump???
Well I called the local ford dealer and they sent me the inspection sheet. The concern was - engine warms up , engine rattles and stalls, cam phasers are new. The correction - Inspect, bank 1 not timed correctly. Also has low oil pressure causing the cam phasers to not operate properly...- BrandonH13

Yeah I am going to call the ford dealership today when I get a chance and ask how they figured it was the oil pump or what steps they took to get there. Where is the oil pump located on the expedition anyways? It is in the oil pan or external?- BrandonH13

So we just bought a 2005 expedition with the 5.4 in it. We have had it about a month and a half...second vehicle so its rarely driven. So the techs at Ford said that what is making the noise is the oil pump and that the engine shouldn't last to long. The couple.times we drove it, the oil pressure didn't move. Do these have a problem with the oil pumps? I just don't see the oil pump making it die and everything when it warns up- BrandonH13

Thanks, so do we. Not a good start for our live with the expedition lol, but now maybe it will get better than 13-14mpg on the highway. Also can't wait to get it back and do the gotts mod. They finally worked on it...they changed EVERYTHING but the tensioners and of course thats what let go. So even though they had to open the engine up to find out if something they did was broke....it sounded like they still wanted to charge up the full amount for labor.
