Yet another, but different, bubbling paint question

I agree with Jim. Any body shop worth a salt should be able to prep and paint aluminum. If the paint comes off, the aluminum shouldn't corrode significantly. You just have to live with the missing paint!

    Wheel Options and Questions

TPMS can be moved between wheels without a problem, or if you order wheels and tires, new sensors can come pre-installed (less than $200). New TPMS sensors would have to be programmed with the vehicle after installation, so there may be some cost there. Most tire shops should be able to do...

    trouble signing in

I have seen the same thing - main page doesn't ever show that I am logged in, but if I go into a forum, it remembers me. FYI - I am using Chrome on a WinXP SP2 machine.

    multiple random misfire

A quart of oil every 800 miles? That sounds like the problem to me. If you can stop the oil issue, my guess is that the hesitation and mis-fire go away too (after you change all the O2 sensors again probably).

    Performance Question

According to the Ford website, all EL's come with the 3.73 rear end. A 3.31 would certainly improve off the line acceleration! The only reason I can figure that the EL has a different rear end is highway fuel economy - the taller rear end yields lower RPM's which help offset the extra weight.

    Performance Question

I find that the EL's feel a good bit slower. Also, the brakes feel weaker. Admittedly, I am not sure how much of it is actual performance difference and how much just feel, but they do leave some to be desired in terms of performance.

2008 Limited - keep / get new one?

I agree to keep it. We have driven our previous ones close to 100K with little to nothing more than normal maintenance (tires, shocks, batteries, oil changes). The only exception to this may be our current one because I wrecked it and it hasn't ever driven the same since.

    FYI - 2015 Ford Expedition to get 5.0 liter 32-valve Ti-VCT V-8

Several European car companies are working on them, although mostly smaller cars (Jetta, Passat sized). They do get remarkable fuel economy this way. Note that in the US, diesel still isn't considered a worthwhile option for most vehicles for two reasons. First, people remember the diesel...

    Back Up Sensor

What year(s) are your Expeditions? If the sensor heads are visible, then you can easily check the alignment. Some years had hidden sensor heads (behind the bumper cover; no holes), and for these you have to crawl under the vehicle to see the sensors. But either way, a quick alignment check on...

    FYI - 2015 Ford Expedition to get 5.0 liter 32-valve Ti-VCT V-8

EcoBoost in the Navigator? Seems like that could hurt sales, not help them! Personally, I would think that the EcoBoost would sell better in the Expedition. But then again, everyone I know with the EcoBoost in an F150 wishes they had gotten the V8!

    Engine/drivetrain Flutter as highway Speeds

So, you may recall that I nearly totalled my Expedition this past summer. I took out all the front bodywork, front passenger lower A-arm, rear passenger trailing arm, and scraped up a bunch of the undercarriage. Now I am getting a flutter type sound when cruising at highway speeds. My first...

what can you do with Sync ?

Yep. I agree with the others. Sync in the Expedition is at least one generation behind the other Ford products. Just controls Audio, phone, and Nav (if included). And the voice recognition is only so-so. Usually it understands what I say (except for my last name, which is a pain when trying...

    photobucket

Gimp is another good photo editing software, but it is a little complex (essentially an open-source competitor to Photoshop), and the documentation stinks. But once you figure it out, you can do a ton of stuff!

    Hauling a U-Haul 6x12 trailer

I've towed these before with my Expeditions, and never had an issue. It's pretty smooth sailing. Note that some older U-Haul trailers don't have standard wiring and you may have to buy an adapter. It's not expensive, and the rental location should have them. Also, if you don't have the 4 pin...

What did you do to the expy today

Filled the gas tank for my wife (actually a couple days ago, but this is the first time since that I have logged on). Almost $80. I love big gas tanks!

    Eddie Bauer vs Limited

Agreed. Limited comes with a little more standard equipment, although not a lot. Main difference is appearance - EB has the gold-tone rocker panels and wheel-well arches, while the Limited is mono-tone (grills may be different, too). EB has dark accents on the interior (center console and...

    code retrival without scanner?

One word of caution on AutoZone, Advance, etc. code readers - check the wiring harness before you let someone plug it into your OBDII port. I had a guy try to read the code and then go, "Huh. It's not communicating." I looked when he pulled the harness, and it looked like a rat had been chewing...

    Power Running Boards

If someone is willing to test it, try opening one door (front or rear) then standing on the running board in front of the other door while closing the open door. All the aftermarket systems use this method to deploy the board with the doors closed. You can then open and close a door to reset...

Graphic Display - what's up with that?

I'm guessing that the 2014 will get the gauge panel out of the newer F150s - full color digital display. But, yes, it is a few years late to the Expedition!

    power running boards ?

I had one side replaced after an accident. The Ford part is $2500 for the full step assembly (the only way it is available).

    Sync/NAV Update

Text Messaging is phone dependent. The only phones that I have seen with text message support are newer Windows Phone devices. I am not sure of the technical limitations, but I believe it is a BlueTooth stack issue in the phone itself. Note that there are a few apps in the Android market that...

    Help

Also, I have noticed that our old Expedition had an A/C drain line above the exhaust line. It popped for several minutes after shut-down as a result. Sometimes you could even hear the water sizzle if you listened closely! Haven't noticed it on the '11 yet, but I don't often stand next to the...

2011 Expedition and advance trac questions

Personally, I think your dealer is right. I would leave traction control on even when going off-road. As for the warnings, again the dealer is correct. The initial warnings you were getting were because the truck was confused why one wheel was turning when the others weren't. The Check 4x4...

2012 Expy Service Advancetrac & Blinker Issues

You should be able to get a code reader and pull the error. However, there are only a couple causes of that "Service Advanctrac" warning. One is a faulty wheel speed sensor - not very expensive to change (but don't ask me how - it is buried in the wheel hub somewhere). The other is the ABS...
