    Potential new '05 owner

Oh I've got AAA so I'm good! I only really drive it now to work and back in Austin and around little ol' Buda so if it does break down it will be in town and not on a road trip. I have a friend that heads up a mechanic school in San Antonio and he said they might be able to swap the engine out...

    Potential new '05 owner

This was from a trusted mechanic that our family has taken their vehicles to in Garland for 30 years. He said it's the labor of getting to the phasers because you have to take the engine apart. Another local mechanic here in Buda quoted this: "Timing chain job with cam phasers runs about...

    Potential new '05 owner

I bought a 2006 EB back in October 2016 with 90k miles on it. 12k miles later back in August 2017 the ticking started and check engine light came on as it started hesitating like it wanted to die while going 75mph on the freeway. The shop said it's the camshaft phasers going out and would be a...

Lovely smell of coolant in cabin

Crossing my fingers for you! It's been 5 days for me and heater still works with no coolant smell. No coolant smell when switching over to A/C but the cold air flips over to hot air in under a minute (front vents only) so that sounds like an unrelated issue to the coolant leak. Maybe the blend...

Lovely smell of coolant in cabin

I convinced myself yesterday that there was no clog at the heater core and put in an 8oz bottle of K-Seal for $15. Within 5 minutes of driving it the coolant smell was gone and the heater was blowing hot again out of the front vents. Not sure how long this temporary fix will work but for now...

Lovely smell of coolant in cabin

I'm thinking of going that route, John, to see if it fixes it at least temporarily. I still cannot for the life of me find the leak. No drips on anything in the engine compartment and no sign of drips or leaking onto the floorboard. The front heater now doesn't blow warm instead stays whatever...

Lovely smell of coolant in cabin

I do not but I have some friends that do and are willing to help. The temp has stayed steady at normal with no overheating. No other places I can find that leak. I did notice if I kept the AC on normal it would stay blowing cold but with coolant smell. When I kicked it to max AC is when it...

Lovely smell of coolant in cabin

John, I'm also new to the forum with a similar issue, although no fogging of windows. Picked up a 98 Expedition last weekend and the front air vents are blowing warm with coolant smell. The rear AC blows clean and cold. I think it might be the front heater core but I'm not seeing any leaks or...

    Hello all

Just recently bought a 1998 Expedition 4WD. Heater kicked on when I went to run the AC and smelled coolant. Rear AC works great. From my researching it sounds like it's the heater core. Yea. Well since I'm in Austin (Buda) I don't need the heater much so I'm looking at bypassing the heater core...
