    Electrical gurus needed!

Couldn't get the truck in to get the windshield re-sealed today, mainly because nobody here wants to reseal, just replace. However, it's been raining for almost 2 days straight and my floor isn't wet, nor do I feel any moisture under the dash, on the fuse panel or on top of the gem module...

    Electrical gurus needed!

Ok so this isn't exactly an expy, but I have always found this forum extremely helpful with a lot of knowledgeable people so I'm asking anyway...going to be a long post so buckle up! Picked up a 2002 F150 super crew the other day. 150k, very clean truck. Owner said the windshield wipers didn't...

    2001 Expy 5.4 (4x2) Transmission problem.

That code is shift solenoid 1 malfunction. Clear the code, do a drive cycle test and check for codes again. If the code re-appears, replacement of the shift solenoid is likely.

    slight stumble in drive

Maybe way off here, but when you had the vac. leak surely the computer compensated and you were running lean/rich and fouled out the plug for cyl. 3? Highly unlikely but just a thought. Another thing you could do is swap coil packs from one side to the other. See if the miss follows. If not...

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Intake came in today so decided to go ahead and get this installed after work as I'm impatient and hate to see my truck just sitting.... Well this time around it was a success! It went in a lot smoother this time, and I did learn that the intake needed to be lined up perfect for the bolts to be...

    2000 Expedition Intake Manifold

A 7,8, and 10mm socket, a few different extensions, an 1 1/4" open end wrench, and a torque wrench. That's all I used. I didn't take my hood off.

    2000 Expedition Intake Manifold

Pricey yes, but boy are they nice. I also have a 2000 EB, 5.4 4wd. I've had a few other 1st gens over the years but this one is by far my favorite. Very very clean truck and just hit 215k. Still has the rustproof/undercoating on the frame. I have always been big on trading vehicles (for some...

    2000 Expedition Intake Manifold

It's not an overly complicated job, (doing it now myself actually) as long as you're decently mechanically inclined. There's actually a YouTube video that is very good for reference. I'll post the link if I can find it again. Found it.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Make sure you clean up the gasket surfaces well, and clean the bolt hole threads on the head, and especially the 2 bolts for the thermostat housing. I would also replace the thermostat housing bolts if they are even a little corroded.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Well I guess if they made them last forever they wouldn't sell as many. Sad but true.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

It was a Dorman. Part #615-188. I didn't take any pictures last night, but I'll snap one this evening after work.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Agreed. A few extra minutes for gasket/surface prep and double checking doesn't take the time it would to re-do everything. On another note, curiosity got the best of me and I pulled the intake back off. The insert was still there, although it was severely distorted, and the housing part of it...

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Yea. Just bought one off Amazon. I'd rather buy a new one and do it right than try and repair the old with no results. The trucks in great shape and has done me well the past year so it's definitely worth it for peace of mind.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

I agree. Definitely part of it. I'll be able to cut my time in half the second go around! I haven't taken it back apart yet, as I'm waiting for the new intake kit and don't want to leave the heads open for days, but I am curious to see if the brass insert is missing from bolt hole. I would...

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

I had it set to 20 ft/lbs. My manual says 18-22 ft lbs for the intake to head bolts, so I figured I'd go in between. Won't make that mistake again. It was a brand new torque wrench.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Actually according to Dorman they are made in America. Or at least that's what's stamped on the intake. I did. Followed the torque sequence, starting with the middle, and moving cross cross to the outside. The only issue I can think of, is that you have to use an extension on the torque...

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

I didn't see anything out of the ordinary other than the oring inside the normal gasket. I had coolant pooling up on cylinder 1 along with a cylinder 1 random miss. However, I broke my intake torquing it down today even though I was at the low threshold of the torque value. So no results or news...

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Would seem like the most sensible thing to do.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

But I don't think that oring was supposed to be there. The manifold gasket already seals that. I think that extra o ring may have been part of the problem.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Ok. Got it figured out after talking with some guys that used to put these motors together for Ford. The 5.4 heads are technically a "one size fits all," meaning that each side is interchangeable with the other. So if I were to swap the passenger side head with the drivers side, that port that's...

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

It's been on the truck well before I had it. I've double and triple checked the part number for the manifold, it's correct for my truck. When I set the manifold in place, it doesn't even cover that hole.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Now here is the intake side. Unless the previous owner had the wrong one installed, or I'm a moron (which is entirely possible), I don't see anywhere for an oring to go.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

Here is the back passenger side of the head. The small circle behind the water passage.

    Loss of coolant, possibilities?

I didn't replace the intake, it had previously been replaced before I acquired the truck. On the manifold it gives me the part # for the replacement gasket set, comes with no orings. But if I look up the manifold itself, the pictures show 1 small oring.
