How many miles on your 2nd Gen Ford Expedition?

Scrolling through this post, and updating my ‘05 mileage: 154,200. Replaced the original brake pads/rotors @141k. I’m on my 4th set of tires, replaced all of the struts @ 98k (one was leaking). It’s still a good ride. I’m looking at small areas of corrosion to sand & prime, and considering a...

    5W-20 Ford recommended oil

I’m running full synthetic 5w30 since I went to the high flow/pressure oil pump when I replaced the roller followers, lash adjusters, timing chains/gears/guides, and the VCT components at 100k. My last oil change, the dealership in Hagerstown, MD put in 5w20, contrary to my request, and I had to...

    Motorcraft or Akebono ceramic pads?

My ‘05 original pads and rotors lasted 141,000. I had the dealer replace them a year ago. I figured if the OEMs went that long, and the brake dust hasn’t annoyed me thus far, I wouldn’t experiment with other brands. Plus, the replacement pads have a lifetime warranty from Ford.

    Cranking Issues

I’ve had slow cranking issues twice with occasional no starts. Both times, it was a slow starter. Replaced the starter, all was good. I have a 2005 XLT, 144k.

Will 4x4 Work With ABS INOP

Yes, I found out the auto4wd needs abs speed signals.

    Brakes help

I’d have the codes for the ABS pulled. My ODBII scanner won’t communicate with my ABS. Just had both local dealerships pull the codes for my ABS warning light. One dealership started the scare tactic of bad master cylinder & booster. The other tried scaring me about bad wheel bearings. It wound...

Start battery finally gave out, what’s the preferred replacement?

My first Motorcraft battery went 6 years. My second Motorcraft battery went 5 1/2 years. I’m on my 3rd Motorcraft one now. They’ve been around $200 to $250 installed. I figure if the OEM lasts that long, why gamble? I’m using the same theory on the brakes. I’m finally getting pads & disks all...

    Roller followers

David E, I don’t do Facebook, so I couldn’t open your attachment. I replaced all of my roller followers and lash adjusters. My engine had the early production parts that were redesigned.

    Roller followers

The rear intake roller follower on #2 failed on mine. It started ticking around 60-70k, and became a full blown knock around 99k.

    Cleaning/Restoring Window Strips

I hit min with the Megiuer’s ultra black whenever I black the other plastic. Looks good, until I have to do the plastic again. Usually every couple of months.

    5 tire rotation

I’m getting ready to re-tire. Yeah, I couldn’t resist that pun. In considering the new tire purchase, I remember the 5 tire rotation I used to do on my ‘86 CJ-7. I got 60k out of the Goodyear Wranglers (twice) Since the spare wheel on an expedition doesn’t match the 4 on the ground, I’m...

    Brake job

Thanks for the replies. Next Friday, the local dealership will be replacing the brake rotors & pads with the same ones that have lasted 135k. I thought about drilled/slotted rotors, carbon fiber/ceramic pads, etc. But in the end, the Ford stuff has gone this far, and they quoted $800+tax for...

2006 - Limited Expedition - Ticking sound that speeds up when accelerator is pressed - and lack of power

I had 2 loose spark plugs (installed by the stealership for $700) that caused a loss of power and “exhaust “ noise on the driver’s side. I also hah an internal tick for about 30k miles before it grew to a knock. That wound up being a siezed roller follower bearing on the #2 back intake valve...

    Transmission question

I’ve had my flushed twice by the dealership. My ‘05just rolled up 134k. You could probably try a fluid flush from the dealership to see if it improves anything.

    aftermarket key fob

I just got the 2 keys programmed at the stealership. $130 + tax. They work great. Total in: $158 for 2 keys & fobs programmed.

    Here's a head scratcher

A slow turning starter caused the same issues with my ‘05. I never realized how slow it was turning until I put the new starter on. I had an intermittent crank/no start for a couple of months before the starter finally went TU.

    Brake job

I’m getting ready to do a complete brake job on my ‘05 XLT 4WD. Any suggestions on brands to use or avoid. I’m leaning towards Motorcraft, since the original set went 133k.

    aftermarket key fob

I ordered my aftermarket fobs & keys from USARemote on Amazon. They arrived the next day. $25 for 2 key blanks & fobs. Went through Hamfisted’s procedure above. Worked great. Thanks! Got the blanks cut yesterday for $3. Headed to the stealership for key programming tomorrow. They said $65 for...

    aftermarket key fob

I just ordered a pair. Will let you know. I’m at the local dealership. They wanted $100 to program a key & aftermarket fob, since Ford doesn’t make them for older versions.

    Bleed up code p1450

Mine has been doing that for 6 years. I just reset it at a fill up. The Ford service training manual on the ECM I read described the fault is scanned for by looking at the change in fuel quantity over a 24 hour period. It doesn’t effect engine performance, just emissions. Since I live in an area...

    Check that roof rust !

I just wire wheeled and primed the gutter where the side panels are glued to the top. Also had rust in the volutes at the front & rear. I was thinking about removing rack and inspecting that. You’ve convinced me to do that. I may leave the rack off and plug the holes.

    2005 developed loud engine knock

The roller follower on the left was the culprit. The cam lobe it rode on had some false brinelling with metal transfer to the lobe from the seized bearing. I put the cam on a lathe and polished out the pits. I only lost 0.001” of lift. I can live with that.

    2005 developed loud engine knock

I paid about $1200 for the parts and did it myself. Used only Motorcraft parts, except the oil pump.

    2005 developed loud engine knock

That sounds exact like my ‘05 used to sound. Mine was the rear intake roller follower on #3 cylinder. I did the entire timing job and a Melling hi pressure/flow oil pump. Mileage was 99,000 when I did it. 125,000 on it now. I replaced all the roller followers & lash adjusters with the new style.
