OK- I hate to do this. But I gotta get better headlights in my 2009 EXP

IMO, GM is the absolute worst out there by far, followed by Honda/Acura. Everyone else is hit-or-miss by the various models... I think Lexus/Toyota and Tesla have the best LED lights. That's just my opinion... I'm not sure what IIHS says about them, but I know they just recently started rating...

-8°F for my commute in southeastern IN this morning.

    My Salesman Called today...

Carfax is often little more than a marketing gimmick to hide unreported damage. I've seen cars (even an expedition) with water lines in the interior that had a clean carfax. None of the power seats worked, and the frame was rotting away on a car that had only 100k miles on it, recently brought...

Had my truck rust treated today (pics)

One of the Canadian guys on the CRZ forum had an issue with Krown shorting his trunk latch button, which is the same type of switch used for the glass... Taking it apart and cleaning it solved the issue though. Just maybe be careful if they treat your hatch.

That de-escalated quickly! Glad it was just the COP and not the whole transmission!

    Emergency Opinions

It is on the "maintenance free" transmissions of late that don't have a dipstick. slow leaks let it get low on fluid, and then after a while, it just toasts itself... most of the time you get some warning, but the threshold of "oh, it's been getting steadily louder lately" ramps up pretty...

Can anyone help decipher freeze frame data please?

I'd hardly call that a "new fuel filter" in terms of diagnosing problems with your car.

is it for sale, lol? I"m in the market.

On the hunt in Metro Detroit

I"m not saying you can't find good ones in any market... and maybe SEMI is a good place to look for older vehicles cuz the bad ones fell apart years ago, lol. I hear you on the high mileage ones. I was shopping for these for my brother back in July, and the best one I found was a 2-owner 2003...

On the hunt in Metro Detroit

I wouldn't buy anything older than 5years from SE michigan. Way too much rust for my preference. Keep on the lookout though, you might find one that's not a total rustbucket with a reasonable price. I'm having enough trouble here in SE Indiana.

OK- I hate to do this. But I gotta get better headlights in my 2009 EXP

I bought this set of projectors for my explorer. I haven't gotten to install them yet, but they were pretty well recommended outside of amazon's reviews. I've used other iJDMToy products before and they seem to be pretty good quality. I'm also going to be installing these LEDs that were...

    Running lights on trailer inop

Did you have the ignition switch all the way on when you did your light check? Trailer running lights are a run-only powered circuit. Brakes and hazards will work with the engine off, and turn signals will work with the ignition in accessory. Vehicle running lights can come on with the truck...

Lol, neither of those were your fault, except that you made poor selections of automobile.

    help identifying a part

if you can't read that part number, you need to have an eye exam. As for what the purge valve does, it's part of the evaporative emissions system. Failure of this could cause rough idle, low gas mileage, and your Service Engine light would come on.

Just figured out a thoughtful wiper feature

My 2002 explorer is like that, too... I really wish there was a similar feature for the rear.

Tell me about the 3rd gen Ford Expedition...

Ok. I'm pretty familiar with the noise, from when I was purchasing one for my brother... Some of the ones I looked at had this really nasty rhythmic grinding sound.

Tell me about the 3rd gen Ford Expedition...

I guess the big question would be the cam phaser issue - how prevalent was this as late as 2007? I thought that was more of an 03/04/05 issue, but it's not uncommon on 06+... I'm interested to see more about this particular truck, especially getting into an EL for so cheap... we've got a couple...

Tell me about the 3rd gen Ford Expedition...

Trying to keep this topic in one thread, but what seems to be the high end of the longevity on the 3rd gens? I've found an 07 Limited EL for under $5000, but it's got 260,000 miles on it. The pictures on CL look somewhat promising (the running boards aren't dangling off or rust-stained from the...

Left key in ignition In 2013 Expedition

your battery is drained. jump start it and drive it for a half hour to charge it. The reason your lights and radio come on is that they only pull about 20-30 amps, but the starter pulls about 60 amps. If it was a PATS issue, the THEFT light on the dash would be illuminated or flashing.

    Rust hole in frame ugh!!

They are most likely to recommend a full frame replacement, at a cost of roughly $5k. Most places I know of won't take on the liability of a frame rust repair.

    Rust hole in frame ugh!!

Anything can be repaired. It's just a matter of how much money you want to throw at it. I'd say the best bet is to stop the rust where it is with something like POR-15. Don't take it to Zeibart, as my experience shows that they are nothing more than scam artists when it comes to rust...

    5.4 gave it's "balls" away...

That sounds an awful lot like clogged cats. RockAuto has good prices for aftermarket catalytic converters, but the odds of finding a used one for sale are pretty low, since it's illegal to sell used catalytic converters. You might need to change your fuel filter too, but that's just a general...

    Carbon Monoxide/Exhaust coming into Cabin

How many times did you really floor it though? That seems to be the big difference for people that have the problem on the explorers - especially the PIU, since upfitters make extra holes, and LEOs seem to floor it almost every time they move. It wasn't on every Explorer or PIU, so it probably...

    Carbon Monoxide/Exhaust coming into Cabin

I've been watching this thread pretty closely over at the Explorer Forum, and it sounds like you've got the exact same problem - with a similar initial response from Ford. The Explorer TSB details a couple possible fixes. In order of attempt: Update HVAC computer to latest software; inspect all...
