Hmm, good idea! I picked one up while I was at the parts store today. The filter that's on there is probably antique.
Grandma is thrilled to be driving her own car again (so thrilled that she accidentally bumped a Mazda at the grocery store already ).
Thanks for all the help
Removed the spark plugs without too much drama. Again, seems like a mix of parts and ages. Two different types of motorcraft platinums, an Autolite, plus the Bosch Iridium that I just put in there while troubleshooting this. Gaps weren't horrendous, but they were all over the place. A couple...
Well, that wasn't as bad as the crankshaft sensor. Plugs up next. Looks like we had at least three different types of coils
(#5 is the one I had just changed)
We're pretty sure the plugs and coils have all been changed by my uncle or grandmother at one point or another. Doesn't seem like they were done at the same time though, and obviously not with all the same parts.
Man, I was really hoping that was gonna fix it. What a pita to get to lol. No dice though, symptoms are exactly the same. Old sensor was pretty grungy though.
Can't find any PIDs that are called crank or ignition or coil. I think there is not a PID for them, or it's just apart of some other related PID maybe?
Looks like it's blocked by the a/c compressor, so that'll be a littler harder to check. Probably need to get it back on jack stands to get a good look.
Yeah, I'm using an OBDLink EX and FORScan. I haven't been checking fuel trim lately, I've had all the misfire pids and some rpm and cam sensors. Will throw fuel trims back in. One thing I can't figure out with FORScan (I'm new to it), is how to change the oscilloscope to look at different PIDs...
Uncle cleaned up the throttle body while I was at the office today. Left me a new PCV valve, which I installed after cleaning up the nearby hoses a bit. Reinstalled the intake and buttoned it back up. Started and idled smoother but the problem is definitely still there. Heavy misfires while on...
No telling how long it's been running rough, but I would guess it's been accumulating crud for a while. It wasn't stalling before though, and that seems to have started out of the blue. After it started stalling some months ago, Grandma wasn't keen to drive it, so it sat for a while too. Maybe...
My uncle thinks the dirty throttle body is a smoking gun? I do see an issue with the PCV valve area being very oily, but it seems like an odd conclusion to link the two issues.
Was seeing the most misfires on cylinder 5, and it's easy to get to. Tried a new ignition coil and a new spark plug. No change. Still getting the P0320 and a lot of misfires. Still thinking it's a short or the PCM, but I'm having a very difficult time locating a definitive cause :(
I'm trying to help my grandmother get her 2004 Ford Expedition 5.4 Eddie Bauer back on the road, but every time it's initially running, the engine stutters intermittently. Occasionally it will stall completely. Once the engine has warmed up, 10-20 minutes, the problem vanishes and then the...
