So today my 1999 exoedition was stuck in 4wd. Now that I have owned the car for a few months I noticed that when it rains for a long period of time my expedition will do this (first gen window leak problem). in the time between getting a new windshield I am hoping that someone may know another preventative measure to better protect the GEM module. I cleaned mine with electrical contact and parts cleaner, just the sockets though. Hope someone has found a creative way to protect it. Thought about laying saran wrap over the module and tigtly around the sockets.

mbuchan8, you can remove the GEM module and put it in the oven at about 200F to help dry out the module. DO NOT!!!!!!! go any warmer than this. To do so risks damage to the module.

As for keeping water off of it for the moment, you can try saran wrap or putting a plastic shield over the top, but the real solution is stopping by the windshield shop and having them redo the windshield. Takes about an hour and $100. You will spend a lot of time and some money to create your little diversion rig.
