Getting packed today. We are both out-of-work financial services professionals here in Charlotte and we're taking advantage of the.. eh-hem - respite - to visit family in Vermont and Rhode Island. Leaving at 5:00 AM and we have two boys - a 2 1/2 year-old and 6 month-old. This should be an adventure.... Hoping to make it in one day but have a hotel picked out at the half-way mark just in case.

Just had a fuel injection system cleaning done, including throttle body, and new Pennzoil synthetic put in. This will be the first really long trip for the new Goodyear Fortera TripleTreds. Looks like a good chance of rain much of the way.

No real mods - just a K&N air filter (noisey), Colgan bra, and Husky Liners throughout.

Taking I-77 to 81, to 78, 278, then 87 north to Rt. 9 into Vermont and Rt. 7 north from there. Be very curious to see what the fuel mileage will be ('04 EB w/ 5.4) with the full load and Thule roof box.

Thank goodness for the DVD player....

The trip was great. The truck ran real well. Averaged 18.4 MPG w/ the roof box on it. As far as I can tell, the K&N air filter has only made the truck louder. No power or MPG gains.

Thule Roof Mount

Moby Dick,

Just curious if your Thule is mounted directly to your factory cross members on the Expo? I'm looking to mount a 21 cu ft Thule box on mine and the roof rack is just like yours. I don't really see the need for the crossbars from Thule but wanted to seek your opinion since you have similar box. Thanks in advance for your time.
