1999 Expedition XLT 4.6 (long crank, occasional grind)

Hello. I own a 1999 Expedition 4.6, XLT. My car (not always) but cranks a little longer than normal, but will start fine. Now occasionally I think if I turn my key over too quick, I hear grinding. I will then turn the key back to the beginning position and turn the key less fast and my car will start. Can someone tell me what this may be? Thank you.

Could be fuel pump is failing. Try being slow consistently.

Turn the key to accessories mode, go slow and wait 3 seconds to allow the teeth to line up and spin, then turn it on fully.. That should eliminate so much grinding
