Hi, y'all.
So I've got a few issues with my Expedition but the most concerning right now is that just after I installed a new battery, I started experiencing a shudder, mainly when I'm idling or accelerating. I had the starter, battery, and alternator checked and they are fine.
When idling, it sometimes shudders so bad it feels like the truck's going to quit completely. There's no check engine light coming on. I am going to be calling a mechanic today (I've had to find a new one after 4 different local mechanics screwed up figuring out what was wrong with my '86 F-250) and hoping to get it taken in today or tomorrow.
Any idea what is causing this and why it started up after I got a new battery installed? And any general idea how much it will cost to fix it?
Any and all advice/opinions are welcome.
Misfire.
Plug, coil, and/or injector on one of your cylinders.
Do you have a check engine light? A $12 elm327 bluetooth code reader can tell you which cylinder misfiring and throwing codes, typically it'll be p020# and/or p030# (where # is the number of the cylinder giving you trouble)... Panlong is a reliable brand mine has been good to me for a couple years now, it is $12 on amazon.
Plugs are 7-10 bucks a piece for originals, coils are like 30-50 bucks a piece original or 30-60 bucks for all 8 generic. Injectors are $30-40 / ea, they're a more complex part so don't get a no-name brand
Each of the above can be swapped out in your driveway in 5 to 15 minutes. Just figure out which cylinder unless you think it's about time to change them all (though knowing which one was the issue would be nice anyway, in case it persists).
Start with coil pack, its literally held in with one bolt only. Then plug probably.
If that didnt help do the injector.
