2001 5.4 EB 2WD. I have had this thing for 9 months now. At the start of summer I started to notice noise around the AC compressor. I also noted the AC did not cool unless I running at speed. The noise got worse and now the system does not cool at all. The noise is coming from the clutch. What is the chance the clutch is the problem and I do not need to replace the whole thing?

If the compressor is original then it has been running for 16 years. I would say it is coming close to the end of life. Why not just replace the whole assembly if you plan on keeping the Expy?

to answer the question yes you can just change the clutch and you do not have to open the system to do so

but I agree with Stamp, might as well change the whole thing
